Job purpose
To operate as part of the Engineering design department responsible for the development and delivery of detailed design and construction information for the mechanical and HVAC systems. Manage and support the Design and Build technical activities across the Group .
Duties and responsibilities
Responsible for:
Operate as the HVAC/ Mechanical lead for projects representing Ardmac in relevant project meetings.
Development of detailed design information for elements of the mechanical/HVAC systems for particular projects.
Responsible for ensuring that the mechanical/HVAC design is developed in line with relevant Client and industry standards and guidelines.
Overseeing of the HVAC design as it is being developed to ensure the most cost-effective solutions are being proposed.
Support tendering & bid preparation in all potential Design Build contracts incl development of design for tender information.
Managing and mentoring the other members of the mechanical engineering team appointed to relevant projects.
Responsible for ensuring all HVAC design deliverables for projects are delivered on time and to the required quality.
Manage transfer of information from design phase to delivery phase on projects.
Ensuring effective implementation of the Engineering procedures for all building services work.
Support the Head of Engineering with overall resource planning for the group week to week.
Developing relationships with customers, end user clients and supply chain partnerships.
Market research relating to products/materials to be specified as part of the mechanical/HVAC systems being designed.
Developing and promoting a culture of collaboration within the Engineering Team and with the wider organization ensuring that the engineering team are focused on supporting the wider business goals.
Knowledge generation re products incl. statutory and regulatory developments, trends and improvements in techniques and technology that are relevant to the business & assessing which will contribute to the business and its’ clients.
Tracking of HVAC design budgets and delivery of the HVAC design on-time and within budget.
Understanding of the project budget for the HVAC scope and monitoring the development of the design in line with these budgets.
Where HVAC budgets are exceeded coordinating a value engineering exercise to reduce the cost below budget.
Making recommendations for process improvements demonstrating regular audits and necessary amendments.
Quality control and improvement of the departmental output.
Carry out Performance Reviews for staff under his/her control.
Carry out Peer Reviews to confirm constructability requirements are achieved in Design.
Qualifications and experience
Qualifications:
Degree in Building Services or mechanical engineering
Chartered Status desirable but not essential
Ability and knowledge of:
5 – 10 years experience in Life Sciences or a similarly highly regulated sector
Statutory and Regulatory Procedures
Building Services best practice
Detailed knowledge of HVAC Systems and Procedures
Knowledge & experience of developing design for projects in Cleanroom facilities.
Understanding of best practice for design of mechanical/HVAC systems for Cleanroom facilities.
BIM using revit MEP
Experience in the use of relevant MEP design software packages.
