Essential Qualifications and Skills: Candidates must:
Have a Bachelor's degree (Level 7) in engineering, business, marketing or equivalent.Desirable Qualifications and Skills: 5 years of experience within the MedTech or equivalent industry/research field.Experience of working with clients, managing the client interface, and developing and agreeing high quality project proposals and/or quotations, in conjunction with R&D colleagues, and in response to client requirements.Customer relationship management – have a track record of developing, managing and sustaining customer relationships with industry based clients.Knowledge of industrial requirements for the design of Medical Devices.Experience in product design and development.Experience working with both academic or industrial project partners.Strong knowledge of technological research strategies and trends.Marketing/promotional experience including development of relevant promotional materials (such as brochures, use cases, case studies, newsletters, blogs, website content, social media).Experience of participation in successful inter-disciplinary research programmes.Familiarity with the academic and industrial research environments and willingness to contribute to the group as a whole to develop projects.Excellent organisational, negotiation and interpersonal skills.
Technical acumen in MedTech engineering or technology-related fields.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and business development software.An ability to manage resources.
A can-do, proactive and innovative attitude with a passion for driving change and fostering collaboration.Excellent team working, interpersonal, communications and presentation skills particularly in relation to dealing with senior personnel from industry, agencies and internal stakeholders.Self-starter – ability to work on own initiative within clearly defined guidelines and as part of a team in a fast-paced dynamic environment.Strong track record of working in the MedTech sector.Self-motivated, reliable and hard-working with strong analytical skills.Knowledge of national and international research funding mechanisms.Proficiency in grant-writing and securing funding, an advantage.Overview of the Role: The Enterprise Ireland Medical and Engineering Technologies (MET) Gateway is an applied research centre, dedicated to supporting Research, Development and Innovation activities in the MedTech, LifeSciences and Engineering Sectors.

Applications are invited for the post of Business Development Engineer at the Enterprise Ireland Medical & Engineering Technology Gateway (MET), at Atlantic Technological University, Galway, as funded under Enterprise Ireland's Technology Gateway programme.
The Business Development Engineer will be part of the core staff funded under the Enterprise Ireland MET Technology Gateway, and will support themes 1 (Medical Imaging Technologies), 2 (Anatomical Modelling and Physiological Replication), 3 (Design Evaluation and Optimisation Technologies), and 4 (Tissue Engineering and Biofabrication).
Duties: Promote the Technology Gateway as a resource for local and national industry with provision of access to expertise/resources/facilities, including ongoing maintenance and development of the gateway website and social media channels, and related marketing and promotional materials.Market the technology gateway and engage with industry partners to generate targeted levels of industrial engagement and collaborative research projects.Develop new partnerships with companies in relevant sectors to initiate industry informed research projects.Deliver market research and analysis by conducting thorough industry market research to identify trends, opportunities, and competition to inform business strategies.Support creative thinking and enterprise strategy development by collaborating with senior management to develop and implement business development strategies to achieve innovative growth targets.Attend and present at networking meetings, provide Technology Gateway Manager with agreed reports, and attend review meetings as required by VP of Research & Innovation.Participate in the generation of proposals for completion of contract and/or collaborative industry research projects.
Identify and pursue funding opportunities, grants, and partnerships to support MET Gateway projects.Establish a company Customer Relationship Management (CRM) and Project Management (PMO) contact and project 'pipeline' and proactively manage this with the Gateway Manager.Facilitate access to equipment and facilities where relevant.
Provide technical insights and support during client engagements and project execution.Lead initiatives related to lean, digital and green transformation, promoting the MedTech industry in relation to operational excellence innovations.Support the Quality Lead in the implementation and maintenance of the ISO 9001:2015 accredited Quality Management System.Act as a point of contact for industry with the applied research activities of the University.Collaborate with internal teams to oversee and project manage industrial client relationships from project initiation through to delivery.Must be able to travel to client company facilities, events and Gateway organised events and forums.Deliver outputs on agreed industry technology themes; deliver on required Enterprise Ireland metrics & any new directions/themes as agreed with the Technology Gateway Steering Committee.Report on a regular basis to the Technology Gateway Manager and on request the VP of Research & Innovation on the performance of the Gateway.Any other pertinent duties, as required.Salary: Salary Scale (€59,417 – €72,066) * Candidates external to the sector may be appointed up to the 3rd Point (€62,567) of the Salary Scale in accordance with University Policy.
Hours of Work: 35 hours per week
