Role/Department:
As an Incident Management Risk Specialist in our Non-Financial Risk Management team, you will have the opportunity to collaborate globally across all business units and corporate functions. We value team players with expertise in incident management concepts, risk management, and communication skills. You will need strong collaboration skills and an understanding of regulatory requirements, risk standards, and risk governance frameworks. As part of Risk Management, you are at the center of keeping Northern Trust strong and resilient.
The role will involve extensive process development and maturity, as well as significant stakeholder management and collaboration across locations and functions, as we look to evolve established programs to clearly support business partners in preparing for and responding to incidents.
In addition, the Incident Management Risk Specialist will advise Head of Crisis and Incident Management Risk on opportunities to enhance the design and operating effectiveness of the internal control environment for Northern Trust’s risk management practices.
Key Roles and Responsibilities:
1. Thought leadership in the maturity and evolution of the enterprise Incident Management framework.
2. Assess, consult, and provide effective challenge of Incident Management activities and associated risks.
3. Maintain the enterprise Incident Management Policy. Provide effective challenge of connected 1LOD standards and procedures.
4. Support and challenge the assessment of short, mid, and long-term risk to the organization. Evaluate current controls for the effective mitigation of risks from natural, man-caused, and technological incidents.
5. Develop, facilitate, participate, and support Incident Management Exercises and Testing across the organization.
6. Contribute, assess, consult, and effectively challenge incident management plans, procedures, guidelines, and processes.
7. Provide Second Line of Defense oversight, consultation and support to incidents of moderate and significant impact and complexity.
8. Monitor and track post-incident after-action reports, lessons learned, and improvement items. Evaluate, escalate, and monitor areas of concern into the Enterprise Issue Management Framework.
9. Gather, collate, analyze, and report on relevant Incident Management related metrics, Key Risk Indicators (KRI), and Key Performance Indicators (KPI).
Skills/Experience:
The successful candidate will benefit from having:
1. Several years of experience in Incident Response, Emergency Management, Crisis Management and/or Risk Management.
2. Strong foundational knowledge of Incident Management and Incident Response concepts.
3. Strong problem-solving skills (e.g., ability to structure ambiguous problems and mobilize diverse teams to solve them; ability to lead the team to define the root cause of issues).
4. Ability to move people to act (e.g., convening, structuring, owning the agenda and facilitating meetings and workshops to lead groups to agreement and commitment to execute).
5. Ability to establish trust-based relationships with stakeholders across enterprise, lead them towards common objectives and manage upwards and downwards (e.g., experience with acting as a constructive conduit between business and non-business teams).
6. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing with all audiences, including senior leaders, in a structured manner, including on high-sensitivity topics (e.g., organizational structure, funding).
7. Ability to develop hypotheses and make quick decisions in a fail-fast supportive environment that fosters and encourages a continuous improvement mindset and execution.
8. Strong business writing skills.
