About the Job:
This position involves not only preparing and cooking food but also working closely with kitchen staff, training junior team members, and working with volunteers on a daily basis. The Chef will play an important role in ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of the kitchen and our other Departments within the FoodCloud Kitchen.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Supervision of Kitchen Staff:
Manage and oversee all actions of the kitchen, lead, mentor, and train junior kitchen staff and volunteers in cooking techniques and kitchen safety, ensure high culinary standards are met by team members, guide and train volunteers on kitchen operations, food prep, cooking techniques, and safety protocols, provide clear instructions and constructive feedback to volunteers, helping them improve their skills and efficiency, foster a positive and supportive environment for volunteers to ensure they contribute effectively to the kitchen team.
2. Food Preparation & Cooking:
Prepare, cook, and plate dishes to meet the established menu and presentation standards, ensure the quality and consistency of food, monitoring cooking techniques, portion control, and presentation, maintain the appropriate flow and timing of dishes to meet customer expectations.
3. Quality Control:
Ensure that all dishes leaving the kitchen meet or exceed quality standards, including taste, texture, and presentation, double-check orders for accuracy before they leave for delivery, provide feedback to the team to maintain high levels of consistency.
4. Inventory & Stock Management:
Monitor inventory levels for the kitchen and assist in the ordering, receiving, and storage of supplies, manage stock rotation (FIFO—First In, First Out) and minimize food waste, ensure all food products are handled and stored according to health and safety regulations.
5. Food Safety:
Maintain a clean and safe work environment in your designated station, ensure compliance with food safety and hygiene standards (e.g., safe food handling, cleanliness, sanitation), oversee the correct use of kitchen equipment and tools by your team and volunteers.
6. Collaboration & Teamwork:
Communicate effectively with the head chef and other kitchen staff to ensure smooth operations and efficient service, collaborate with teams across the FoodCloud organisation to achieve the maximum impact.
7. Time Management:
Work under pressure in a high-paced environment, ensuring timely and efficient preparation and cooking of dishes, adapt to sudden changes in the kitchen environment, such as a variety of events or special requests.
8. Professional Development:
Continuously improve your culinary knowledge and skills by staying updated on food trends, techniques, and industry standards, take on new responsibilities and participate in the training and development of kitchen staff and volunteers.
Qualifications and Skills:
* Proven experience as a Chef or in a similar role in a professional kitchen (at least 2-3 years)
* Strong leadership and interpersonal skills to effectively manage and train both staff and volunteers
* Knowledge of various cooking techniques and the ability to produce high-quality dishes under pressure
* Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment
* Experience in training or mentoring kitchen staff or volunteers is a plus
* Excellent time management skills and attention to detail
* Knowledge of food safety regulations and kitchen sanitation practices
* Passion for food, creativity, and continuous improvement
* The role will be based at our permanent kitchen in ACE Clondalkin with additional activity at our Tallaght Hub and Head office as well as activity on location. Travel will be required.
