Purpose of Post
The Occupational Therapy Assistant will be a member of the Occupational Therapy team. She/he will work under the supervision and direction of a qualified Occupational Therapist to provide a high quality and efficient occupational therapy service for service users.
Eligibility Criteria Qualifications & Experience
Candidates must on the last date for receipt of applications, possess:
1. Possess the Certificate in Health Service Skills or Healthcare Support with Occupational Therapy Assistant modules 1 and 2 at Level 5 on the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ) maintained by Quality and Qualifications Ireland (QQI).
2. Possess a relevant healthcare qualification at not less than Level 5 on the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ) maintained by Quality and Qualifications Ireland (QQI) and give an undertaking to participate in the appropriate Occupational Therapy Assistant training modules 1 and 2 within 1 year of taking up duty.
3. Are currently employed as an Occupational Therapy Assistant, Healthcare Assistant, Attendant, Multi-Task Attendant or in a comparable role for at least 1 year and give an undertaking to acquire the appropriate Level 5 or Occupational Therapy Assistant training programme within 1 year of taking up duty.
AND
Candidates must have the personal competence and capacity to properly discharge the duties of the role.
Have knowledge of the role of Occupational Therapy.
Skills, Competencies and Knowledge
1. Demonstrates good understanding of the philosophy and role of Occupational therapy.
2. Demonstrates knowledge of the Occupational Therapy service in Peamount Healthcare.
3. Demonstrates knowledge of Health & Safety legislation and standards and application in work situations e.g. Infection Prevention and Control Standards, Moving and Handling techniques.
4. Demonstrate competent computer skills, proficient in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word and Power Point.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities
Provide assistance to Occupational Therapists working in the assigned clinical area(s). This role includes supervised or directed service user contact as well as assisting in the day-to-day organisation and running of the OT service.
Clinical/Service User Related
1. Read and be familiar with the therapy plan, goals and progress notes for each relevant service user.
2. Participate in the provision of individual therapeutic interventions as directed by the Occupational Therapist including:
* Personal Activities of Daily Living (PADL) training
* Domestic Activities of Daily Living (DADL) training
* Functional Transfer training
* Cognitive rehabilitation
* Upper limb rehabilitation
1. Participate in the provision of therapeutic group interventions as directed by the Occupational Therapist including:
* Meal Preparation group
* Falls Prevention group
* Leisure group
2. Participate in moving and handling of service users, when necessary, during therapeutic interventions in accordance with moving and handling techniques and Peamount Healthcare's Moving and Handling Policy.
Administrative Related
1. Record accurate service user statistics and other administrative records in a timely manner and in accordance with the Occupational Therapy department's guidelines and procedures.
2. Maintain professional standards in relation to consent, confidentiality, ethics and legislation.
3. Complete assigned administrative tasks such as filing, photocopying, scanning, faxing, formatting forms/service user materials.
Health And Safety
1. Work in a safe manner with due care and attention to the safety of self and others.
2. Participate in mandatory training programmes.
3. Implement agreed policies, procedures and safe professional practice by adhering to relevant legislation, regulations and standards.

Tenure
The current vacancy available is a Permanent post on a full-time basis.
Remuneration
Remuneration is in line with HSE pay scales - €34,434 (Point 1) to €43,539 (Point 9)
Working Week
