Audience Editor Ireland

Your Role: The audience editor works closely with the head of content to deliver a distinctive, agenda-setting content package across all platforms. They will bring our stories to life by combining excellent writing skills with an intimate knowledge of what works on social media and how to promote our content through search engines. This job is responsible for ensuring world-class standards of journalism, and helping to lead the editorial team in digital-first commissioning and publishing.
Day to day you will:
1. Successfully manage productive relationships with the Head of content, the Editor, Ireland and journalists across the newsroom as well as with Audience teams and journalists in London.
2. Write and edit copy and headlines to maximise search traffic.
3. Adapt pictures and multimedia for social media platforms.
4. Pull editorial insights from data, understand various platform-specific metrics to inform decisions.
5. Use a variety of techniques to tell stories creatively, from video and GIFs to polls and live Q&As.
6. Pitch exclusive interactive graphics and picture gallery ideas to engage our digital audience and plan how these stories are shared and promoted.
7. Use Google Analytics and keyword research tools to identify trending topics and find innovative ways to optimise our journalism.
8. Pitch constructive news stories, putting people at the heart of stories, with high-quality analysis and expertise.
9. Use social networking and other digital platforms for content generation.
What we are looking for from you:
1. Experience working in audience, social media and SEO for a newspaper or major news organisation, passionate about news, politics and current affairs.
2. Demonstrable understanding of how audience data supports commissioning and how to promote a story on social media and through search engines.
3. Demonstrable interest in keeping up to date with social trends, SEO and digital publishing developments and researching emerging platforms.
4. An ability to work under pressure, to tight deadlines and with rigorous accuracy.
5. Knows how to attract and retain new audiences.
6. Ability to communicate succinctly and effectively.
7. Reliable and prepared to put in extra time and effort where necessary.
8. Experience of working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.
9. Persuasive presentation skills, well-developed interpersonal skills, with the ability to problem-solve.
10. A strong understanding of editorial compliance and regulatory issues.
