Who You'll Work With
Arista Networks is looking for a high-caliber Network Engineer for our Solution Test team. The key role of the Solution test group is to ensure the quality of Arista’s products through system testing of large, complex, and feature-rich, end-to-end environments. This involves focusing on key technologies as well as emulating Arista’s most important and strategic customers' networks by:
1. Researching technologies, features, and customer environments in order to come up with the right topologies to test
2. Exercising extensive feature interaction and identifying potential areas of breakage
3. Exhaustive testing focusing on realistic use cases, scale, and performance
What You'll Do
4. Collaborate with various stakeholders from the development, sales, and other engineering teams to understand testing requirements and expectations (could be a new feature, new design, new release, specific migration scenarios…)
5. Plan the building of, or add to the existing network topology, as required to test the use cases
6. Configure hardware, features, traffic generators, and other tools to emulate the required environment
7. Execute exhaustive test plans, focusing on potential weaker areas, performance, and realistic scale based on real-life scenarios
8. Participate in test plan reviews held by feature test teams and provide customer-centric inputs
9. Troubleshoot failures and performance shortcomings and work with the development team on reproduction, root cause analysis, fix verification, and bug/limitation documentation
10. Communicate and present results to various stakeholders while providing feedback and recommendations on potential design, implementation, and performance improvements
11. Interact with the sales team and customers to answer questions, handle ad-hoc requests, and run small demos
12. Collaborate with peers to cross-train on new technologies and improve team effectiveness
13. Help the TAC team with escalation reproduction efforts when needed
14. Help the POC team with demo efforts when needed
Qualifications
15. Bachelor's or Master's (preferred) degree in telecommunications, computer engineering, computer networking
16. 10+ years of experience working on complex end-to-end environments, including design and hands-on tasks (deployments, implementation, migration…)
17. Experience in testing preferred but not required
18. Highly detailed working knowledge of layer 2 and layer 3 technologies such as IP forwarding, IP multicast, OSPF, BGP, VxLAN, MPLS, EVPN, ECMP, VRRP, STP, RSTP, MST, PVST+, Ethernet link aggregation, LACP, etc.
19. Detailed working knowledge of layer-2/3 switch administration, including industry-standard CLI, SNMP, and API interfaces
20. Familiarity with Linux tools such as ping, traceroute, tcpdump, ifconfig, ip link, ip route, arp, /proc/net, /proc/sys/net, vmstat, netstat, ttcp, iperf, and strace
21. Some familiarity with scripting languages such as Python or TCL
22. Strong written and oral communication skills
23. Strong drive to improve quality and curiosity to learn new technologies
24. Able to operate with a high degree of independence, driven by an internal desire to succeed at the challenge of breaking our products
25. ACE L4, CCIE or JNCIE level (holding the certification a plus, but not required)
