About Peter McVerry Trust Peter McVerry Trust is a national housing and homeless charity committed to reducing homelessness and the harm caused by substance misuse and social disadvantage.
The charity provides low-threshold entry services, primarily to younger people and vulnerable adults with complex needs, and offers pathways out of homelessness based on the principles of the Housing First model.
Role overview The financial accountant will report to the Head of Finance and will be responsible for managing a team of six people in addition to the duties outlined below.
Duties will include the following: Management of day to day operations of the finance departments as directed by the Head of finance.
Preparing and reviewing monthly financial reports including variance analysis with agreed budgets.
In agreement with the Head of Finance taking corrective action across departments with department heads to counteract budget variances.
Debtor and creditor management and associated reporting.
Cashflow management and reporting for both revenue and capital budgets.
Liaising with and collation of data for internal and external auditors as requited.
Assisting the planning, compilation and preparing of annual budgets.
Monitoring and management of expenditure relating to SLAa with other agencies.
Managing and monitoring the finance, expenditure, income recoupment and overall financial impact of Capital projects including RCT and VAT.
Preparation of annual accounts using SORP accounting for charities Ensuring adherence to the organisations internal financial controls Assisting the Head of finance with financial returns of income and expenditure for cost centres and funding agencies as required, as well as organisations management accounts Reporting on KPIs as agreed internally and required externally.
Promote and assist in the implementation of best practice across the organisation in relation to VFM, procurement, risk management and overall efficiency and effectiveness.
Manage and develop the team of staff assigned to you.
Qualifications & requirements Possess a professional accountancy qualification and be a member of a recognised body of accountants Have at least two years satisfactory experience of accountancy work including financial or management accounting Experience of management and team building in a collaborative environment Experience in managing a finance team Ability to build, manage and develop key stakeholder relationships Experience in presenting to management Strong budgeting, reporting, analytical and IT skills If you have experience managing a team in a finance department and see yourself leading people who are positive and motivated, this could be the exciting opportunity for you.
