Research Scientist Intern, Semiconductor Materials Science (PhD)
Meta Reality Labs brings together a world-class team of researchers, developers, and engineers to create the future of virtual and augmented reality. Our internships are twelve (12) to twenty-four (24) weeks long with various start dates throughout the year.
Responsibilities
1. Collaborate with researchers and cross-functional partners including communicating research plans, progress, and results.
2. Publish research results and contribute to research that can be applied to Meta product development.
3. Develop characterization methods for III-V semiconductors related to microLEDs.
4. Explore the relationship of measurable properties to microLED performance and support model development through measurements.
5. Present and discuss results in cross-functional forums.
Minimum Qualifications
1. Currently has or is in the process of obtaining a Ph.D. degree in Applied Physics, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Inorganic Chemistry, Materials Science, Optics, Physics, Physical Chemistry, or relevant technical field.
2. Must obtain work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment.
3. 2+ years experience in at least one of the following areas of optical research: semiconductor materials, optoelectronic devices, LEDs.
4. 2+ years experience with one or more of the following characterization techniques: time-resolved spectroscopy, time-resolved photoluminescence, photoluminescence, fluorimetry, Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Cathodoluminescence (CL), XPS.
5. Experience drawing structure-performance relationships by using modern characterization methods.
Preferred Qualifications
1. Intent to return to a degree program after the completion of the internship/co-op.
2. 2+ years experience with one or more of the following material fabrication techniques: atomic layer deposition (ALD), metal organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD), plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD), inductively coupled plasma (ICP) etch, reactive ion etch (RIE), photo-lithography.
3. Proven track record of achieving significant results as demonstrated by publications in leading journals and/or conferences, grants, fellowships, and patents.
