Actuarial Consultant

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Part Qualified Actuary to join a well-known consultancy in an Actuarial Consultant role on their Corporate and Pensions Actuarial team. The Actuarial Consultant will be involved in a variety of projects including strategic pensions issues, including benefit design, restructuring, risk management/transfer projects, funding, as well as pension accounting disclosures.
This is a hybrid role with the flexibility to work both virtually and from our Dublin or Cork offices.

What the day will look like
Main responsibilities will be:
1. Acting as a key contact for a number of clients
2. Drafting and preparing client deliverables
3. Advising clients on strategic pensions issues, including benefit design, restructuring, risk management/transfer projects, funding, as well as pension accounting disclosures
4. You will have the opportunity to contribute to the management of a portfolio of pension schemes, interacting with trustees and employers on all aspects of retirement planning
5. Preparing actuarial valuations, funding certificates, funding proposals and actuarial statements
6. Assist in the project management of key pension liability management
7. Taking ownership for the quality of technical work delivered to clients, including reviewing work from more junior support team members as required
8. Working collaboratively on joint projects with colleagues in the general consulting, risk management and investment practices.

Skills and experience that will lead to success
The position role would suit a Part Qualified Actuary from a pensions background with significant experience in the Pensions industry. Additional requirements for the role include the following:
9. Educated to degree level in Mathematics, Statistics or similar
10. Intending to work or working towards an Actuarial professional qualification
11. Strong communication skills with proven ability to build and maintain strong clients’ relationships
12. Highly proficient with software packages (MS Excel, VBA, SQL and MS PowerPoint) would be beneficial
13. Advanced numerical, analytical and problem-solving skills
14. The ability to work both independently and as part of a larger team
15. Organisation, decision making and planning skills
16. Commercial awareness – this helps us to provide support and advice to our clients with clarity and confidence.
