Job Title: Clinical Lecturer - Clinical Microbiology (Medically Qualified)
Reporting To: Head of Department of Microbiology
Location: RCSI Teaching Hospitals
Contract: 12 months, renewable, full time
Principal Objective:
The principal objective of the post is to participate in the development, direction, teaching, facilitation and examinations of the undergraduate teaching programme.

Principal Duties And Responsibilities:
* Delivery, assessment and ongoing improvement of small group simulation teaching in clinical microbiology
* Delivery and assessment of clinical microbiology teaching in the School of Medicine
* Participation in curriculum development including case development and spiraling of clinical microbiology materials throughout the undergraduate medicine programme in the School of Medicine.
* Providing resources and communication with student groups via the RCSI virtual learning environment
* Ensuring that all Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland policies and procedures are adhered to.
* Complying with statutory legislation and other guidelines for the candidate's own and general staff welfare and safety.
* Undergoing programmes of training and development as may be required and as agreed.
* Representing the best interests of the RCSI at all times.
Other Responsibilities Include:
* Conducting Research; Outcomes to be defined with head of department
* Performing Clinical Work on-site in RCSI Teaching Hospitals; Detail and commitment to be defined with head of department
* Ensuring that all Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland policies and procedures are adhered to
* Complying with statutory legislation and Department rules and requirements in furtherance of your own and general staff welfare and safety
* Always representing the best interests of the Department/RCSI
* Performing such other duties as may be required from time to time
Candidate Specification: Essential:
* Be medically qualified
* Possess evidence of registration with the Irish Medical Council
* Possess MRCPI or equivalent
* Possess a keen interest in lecturing and interacting with undergraduate students
* Possess excellent communication skills
Desirable:
* Previous experience in clinical microbiology
* Previous experience using E-learning/VLE systems
* Previous experience of teaching and assessing students in an academic environment
* Previous experience in research
