Job Title: Clinical Lecturer- Anaesthetics and Critical Care
Reporting To: Prof Ger Curley, Head of Department of Anaesthetics and Critical Care or nominee
Location: Beaumont Hospital
Contract: 12 months, renewable, full time. The contract will start on July 2025.
Objective:
The principal objective of the post is to participate in the development, direction, teaching, facilitation and examinations of the undergraduate teaching program. In addition, the successful candidate will participate in a growing clinical and translational research program in Anaesthetics and Critical Care.

Contract:
This appointment is available for a period of one year initially, renewable to a maximum of two further years subject to satisfactory performance.
Salary:
The salary is €45,000 per annum for Clinical Tutor or €55,000 per annum for Clinical Lecturer with option of locum consultant sessions or call in the Dept of Anaesthetics and Critical Care or nominee.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Contributing to the clinical teaching programme in the junior, intermediate and senior cycle of the four and five year teaching programmes.
2. Collaborating with other faculty on the delivery and promotion of Simulation within the department.
3. Contributing to the assessment of students in the junior, intermediate and senior cycles of the four and five year programmes. This includes development, delivery and evaluation of these activities.
4. Liaising with heads of department, project leaders for clinical competence and other relevant faculty members in planning, delivering and evaluating teaching programmes.
5. Providing resources and communication with student groups via the RCSI virtual learning environment.
6. Delivering the curriculum at a number of sites e.g. assigned hospitals, RCSI Campus St Stephens Green, RCSI Sandyford Institute of Leadership & Healthcare Management.
7. Conducting clinical or translational research; Projects ongoing in the department include and are not limited to (i) Assessment and optimization of patients with anaemia presenting for surgery; (ii) Peri-operative interventions to decrease the incidence of graft dysfunction during renal transplantation; (iii) Mechanical ventilation of brain injured patients, (iv) Assessment of monocyte dysfunction in sepsis and ARDS.
8. Performing Clinical Work on-site in RCSI Teaching Hospitals; Detail and commitment to be defined with relevant head of department.
9. Ensuring that all Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland policies and procedures are adhered to.
10. Complying with statutory legislation and Department rules and requirements in furtherance of your own and general staff welfare and safety.
11. Representing the best interests of the Department/RCSI at all times.
12. Performing such other duties as may be required from time to time.
Candidate Specification:
Essential:
* Possess evidence of registration with the Irish Medical Council.
* Possess a keen interest in lecturing and interacting with undergraduate students.
* Possess excellent communication skills.
Desirable:
* Previous experience using E-learning/VLE systems.
* Previous experience of teaching and assessing students in an academic environment.
* Previous experience in research.
* Completed at least 4 years of clinical experience post-internship.
* MRCPI / MRCSI or equivalent.
