Under the supervision of the Head Grower the Scout – IPM, will plan and carry out visual inspections of crops, traps to detect any diseases, infections, unknown pests or any other problem and carry out the necessary follow-ups with the people concerned.
Main responsibilities
* Implement IPM strategies to control pests populations, using primarily biological control.
* Plan, each day, the sectors of the greenhouse to be inspected according to the crop plan and harvest schedule (, seedlings, varieties, densities, etc.)
* Accurately identify pests, beneficial insects, and diseases affecting the crop.
* Continuously learn and detect the types of pests and diseases that can affect the type of product to be inspected and how prevent them from coming back.
* Install and inspect traps following established protocols and procedures and compile results in the scouting log
* Communicate any irregular situation to the Head Grower, so that the necessary actions can be taken.
* Prepare samples of various kinds (microbiological pre-harvest, disease, unknown pests, soils, foliar samples) discuss with the Head Grower or send them to various laboratories for studies if needed.
* Enter the inspection results into our computer system every day.
* Educate greenhouse staff on IPM practices and the importance of early pest detection.
* Perform all other related tasks.

Knowledge and skills sought
* Studies in horticultural production, agronomy, TPHE, GEEA or any other relevant field of studies
* Minimum of six (6) months in a similar position
* Experience in greenhouse or vertical farm is a strong asset.
* Knowledge of vegetables, insects, diseases, and weeds
* Professional level and French and English is mandatory and knowledge of Spanish is an asset.
* Good computer skills (word and excel)
* Ability to walk and stand for long periods of time
* Ability to work in various climatic conditions.
* Ability to work long hours.
* Sense of observation, judgment, autonomy, ease of learning and adaptation and teamwork.
