XL Insurance Company SE (XLICSE) is a wholly owned subsidiary within AXA XL and provides the main insurance company platform for AXA XL within Europe and Asia Pacific, operating through an international network of branches, subsidiaries and third party fronting partners. We currently have branches across Europe in France, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Spain, Italy, Sweden, Ireland and the Netherlands writing insurance business.
We are looking for an individual to be based in Dublin, with the ability to manage a diverse and complex portfolio of insurance business, generated by traditional London Market distribution sources.
AXA XL writes a substantial portfolio of EU business in the UK which relies upon Freedom of Services. This portfolio is very diverse including Property, Casualty, Specialty and Professional Lines; and written through multiple distribution sources (wholesale, retail, delegated authority etc). The ability to write this portfolio is potentially jeopardized by Brexit. One of AXA XL’s solutions for this business is to leverage our European insurance Carrier (XLICSE) based in Dublin.
To support this business we are recruiting for the position of an Underwriting Hub Deputy Manager, to be based in Dublin. The Underwriting Hub Deputy Manager will work with our UK underwriting teams to review new and renewal business (which has historically been written onto our UK legal Entities), and assess for alignment with XLICSE’s business plan and risk appetite.
The Underwriting Hub Deputy Manager will receive support from our London based team including: broker and distribution relationship; technical Underwriting and Pricing support; operational support in respect of booking, document production and credit control. The Underwriting Hub Deputy Manager will have ultimate authority to bind risks on behalf of XLICSE.
What will your essential responsibilities include?
1. Supporting adherence to the Underwriting protocols and processes to be adopted in support of produced and incoming business.
2. Assessing whether new and renewal submissions are aligned with XLICSE’s business plans and risk appetites.
3. Binding risks on behalf of XLICSE.
4. Overseeing the portfolio of risks in terms of underwriting performance and aggregate management.
5. Reporting out on the incoming portfolio to the XLICSE Underwriting Committee.
6. Engaging with UK Regional Product Leaders to discuss P&L, identify drivers and understand performance versus plan. Proactively enable communication with BU CUO LT if significant impact upon BU P&L.
7. Identifying/reporting operational risks/issues and driving/guiding corrective action.
8. Getting involved in divisional/BU/other transformational efforts that impact Dublin Hub functions.
9. Maintaining business delivery and continuity.
You will report to the Head of Transversal Underwriting Management.
We’re looking for someone who has these abilities and skills:
1. Experience in either underwriting or underwriting governance, ideally across multiple underwriting disciplines.
2. A good knowledge of different EU insurance markets.
3. Ability to focus on both underwriting individual risks as well as portfolio management.
4. Ability to work in a collaborative manner across geographical boundaries with our London underwriting teams, and broader AXA XL network.
5. Ability to engage fully at the XLICSE underwriting committee, both in respect of the incoming portfolio as well as the broader XLICSE business.
6. Excellent interpersonal and influencing skills.
7. Eagerness to get things done and take responsibility for action.
