BACKGROUND
Cricket Ireland is the national governing body (NGB) for the men's and women's game throughout Ireland, with ultimate responsibility for its national and international aspects.
The future of Irish cricket is very bright given the growth of the sport driven by significant success on the international stage in the last decade leading to an unprecedented visibility for Irish cricket at home and abroad.
Our emergence as a sport of national significance is growing following the elevation of Cricket Ireland to ICC Full Membership and Test Status, along with entry into the sports Future Tours Programme in both the men's and women's game that now sees Ireland playing consistently against the best teams in the world for the foreseeable future.
THE ROLE
Cricket Ireland is now seeking an experienced Finance Director to join our team.
Reporting to the Chief Finance and Commercial Officer, with a dotted line to the CEO, the Finance Director will oversee all aspects of financial management operations at Cricket Ireland, to include creation and management of financial reports, budgeting, forecasting and statutory reporting.
They will work with senior management to deliver on the business strategy and the ongoing development and monitoring of control systems to report accurate financial results.
Key Responsibilities Of Finance Director Financial Planning & Strategy Assist in formulating Cricket Ireland's future strategic direction and supporting tactical initiatives.
Design, monitor and direct the implementation of strategic financial business plans.
Lead on Cricket Ireland's tax planning and compliance.
Implement short- and long-term departmental goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures.
Manage Cricket Ireland's reserves, annual operational and event budgeting processes, and assist in the development of special project budgets and planning with a focus on the development of infrastructural projects to support the transition to full membership.
Support on large scale projects such as National Stadium, World Cup, Facilities investment etc.
Implement best practices for the Finance Department (including ERP, IT packages, policies and resources).
Operations Oversee the financial operations of Cricket Ireland.
Oversee Cricket Ireland's financial programs, accounting and budgeting systems, and tax planning strategies.
Ensure compliance with all Financial Accounting, taxation (domestic and international) and regulatory requirements.
Oversee the timely finalisation of all Cricket Ireland event accounts.
Oversee the approval and processing of day to day activities in the Finance department which include managing revenue, expenditure, investments, budgets, payroll and audit.
Oversee the preparation and finalising of Cricket Ireland's management accounts, audited financial statements, financial reporting and any special analysis required from time to time.
Analyse and manage Cricket Ireland's cash flow, cost controls, and expenses and establish and maintain appropriate internal controls and safeguards.
Manage Treasury function and ensure sufficient FX hedging is in place.
Review and monitor the financial status of the Irish Provincial Unions and oversee financial support provided from time to time.
Oversee submission of and compliance with key grant applications to primary funding bodies.
Line manage staff in the Finance Department.
Advise and/or oversee selected tender processes to facilitate supplier relationships which balance cost-effectiveness against operational effectiveness.
Budgeting/Forecasting Lead the Budget process for Cricket Ireland.
Understand requirements for resources for all departments.
Consolidate requirements and prioritise key deliverables within budget process.
Present Budget to FARC/Board for approval.
Prepare Rolling Forecasts and ensure that spend remains within approved levels.
Prepare reports to Departments providing overview of spend versus budget/forecast.
Work with Director of People and Culture on resourcing, salary increases and restructuring.
Risk Management Ensure that record keeping meets the requirements of auditors and government agencies.
Maintain risk register and report to FARC & Board on key risks to the business.
Maintain relations with external auditors and investigate their findings and recommendations.
Reporting Draft papers and report updates to the Finance, Audit & Risk Committee and Board of Cricket Ireland.
Report detailed results to all departments.
Act as secretary to the Finance Committee.
Requirements
Ideal candidate will have the following background:
Qualified Accountant with 7+ years in finance leadership roles.
Professional qualifications such as ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent.
Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills.
Strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to engage and influence senior stakeholders and cross-functional teams.
Experience of working in a sporting organisation an advantage.
