Mechanical Design Director Location:
Dublin or London preferred, with 50% travel across Europe.
Overview:
A fast-growing hyperscale data centre start-up is seeking a Mechanical Design Director to drive mechanical design processes from concept to commissioning.
This role focuses on energy-efficient, sustainable solutions and managing Basis of Design (BOD) documents.
The ideal candidate will play a key role in shaping cutting-edge data center infrastructure across Europe.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead mechanical design across all project phases, ensuring high standards in safety, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.
Develop and maintain BOD documents with a focus on sustainability.
Manage external design consultants and Owner Furnished Client Installed (OFCI) vendors.
Collaborate with Preconstruction and Commercial Directors to align design, scheduling, and commercial objectives.
Engage with clients to tailor Built-to-Suit (BTS) solutions and refine Reference Designs.
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or 10+ years of mechanical design experience.
7+ years in industrial or commercial mechanical design, with expertise in data centre systems.
Strong knowledge of air handling, heat exchange, fluid distribution, and BAS/BMS systems.
Experience managing design vendors and OFCI suppliers.
Understanding of construction practices and critical infrastructure project management.
Experience on Hyperscale builds.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in Mechanical, Aeronautical, or Building Services Engineering.
Experience with large data centre providers across European markets.
Leadership experience in engineering teams within data centre environments.
Expertise in water system design, preconstruction value engineering, and electrical systems.
