Position Description
Electrification of transport is a key pillar of ESB’s Brighter Future Strategy – reducing the carbon impact from transport and improving air-quality while growing our business. ESB owns and operates the publicly available Electric Vehicle (EV) charging network on the island of Ireland and is currently upgrading and expanding the RoI network and the NI network. ESB is also expanding its EV charging network in Britain – with rapid-charging sites deployed to date in London, Birmingham and Coventry and a project pipeline for future city-wide projects and an anticipated portfolio of privately owned sites across the UK. ESB ecars’ strategy, consistent with our role as a pioneer in Electromobility and our ambition to capture value from the global trend in electrification of transport, is to continue to expand our EV charging infrastructure network.
Reporting directly to the Business Development (Ire) Manager, ESB ecars’ BD team is responsible for generating and tracking new business leads, progressing them through ESB’s internal governance processes and bringing contracts and leases to conclusion before handing over to the Infrastructure Delivery team for execution. The successful candidate will manage ESB ecars bid process for Tenders, RFPs, RFTs, PQQs etc to ensure the delivery of key targets during the expansion and upgrade of ESB’s ecars business in line with our strategy in RoI, NI and GB.
Key Responsibilities
* Keep up to date registrations on public tender platforms and manage all correspondence with the platform and the respective stakeholders.
* Ensure bid responses are accurate, replete with all required information and responses, completed to a highly professional level of presentation, and submitted well in advance of the due date.
* Support the BD team in negotiating and agreeing customer contracts to manage risk exposure.
* Carry out cost analysis and contract negotiation in a variety of agreements (EPC, O&M, Leases, Licences, Vendor Frameworks).
* Prepare customer and EPC contract documentation in association with ESB Legal.
* Review of tender documentation to abstract key project data and develop heads of terms, supported by the BD team.
* Responsible for all tenders and bid submissions for RoI, NI and GB.
* As an active team member, ensure that the Business Development team works effectively to create and deliver a significant pipeline of robust opportunities to underpin an ESB electromobility business of scale.
* Drive efficiencies to ensure contracts remain financially viable and delivered on budget.
* Deliver projects in a timely efficient manner ensuring commercial KPIs are met.
* Liaise with Engineering & Finance teams to develop pricing and commercial models for all identified opportunities.
* Prepare models to assess profitability of identified opportunities.
* Ensure initial cost plans are sufficient to carry out the works included in customer proposals.
* Lead the development of the business case for propositions and customer projects.
* Ensure necessary approvals are drafted and secured in accordance with internal approvals and governance procedures.
* Provide an interface between BD and Engineering & Delivery.
* Responsible for the development and deployment of project contract strategies.
* Prepare and monitor proposition risk schedules.
* Produce cost analysis feedback / lessons learnt to the company for future works.
* Liaise with other functions within ESB to develop customer propositions as appropriate.
Experience and Qualifications
* At least 7 to 10 years industry experience in Bid and Tender management.
* 3rd level qualification/Degree (Engineering or Business Management).
* Advanced negotiation, influencing and stakeholder management abilities.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Financial skill to appraise project returns and profitability.
* Strong commercial acumen and business understanding.
* Prioritise and work on multiple projects as required.
* Experience in new technology introduction.
* Experience working in the Energy Service Sector.
* Conceptual understanding of contract law.
* Familiarity with the EV charging market is highly desirable.
* An innovative and strategic thinker with good problem-solving skills.
* Attention to detail and good organisational skills.

Business Development (Ire) Manager, ESB ecars.
Location
This position will be based in Santry Dublin.
