Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer at Amazon, you will have the ability to drive change and define/design the systems our customers rely on.

The successful candidate will have a degree in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering and several years of experience with mission-critical air and water cooling HVAC design.
You will be responsible for working on multi-million dollar designs that support our array of businesses and wide variety of customers.
AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure.
We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on.
You will collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers.
Key Job Responsibilities:
* Be a leader within the group as well as within internal and external teams that support our data centers.
* Work with internal teams to understand user requirements.
* Participate in site selection reviews.
* Manage design consultancy firms to create, review, and release data center designs.
* Manage change, versioning, and configuration control.
* Work with local utilities to understand and define site utility requirements.
* Define and approve project scopes, request for proposals (RFP), and request for information (RFI).
* Work with local Agencies Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) to ensure compliance with city/county requirements and building codes.
* Work with commissioning teams to validate installation, operation, and performance of systems.
* Work on concurrent projects in multiple geographical regions.
* Travel for site review and conduct engineering evaluations, audits, and site launches.
* Review and approve equipment submittals.
* Work with internal teams to troubleshoot problems and conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and Corrective Action (CA) for design-related problems.
* Define project scopes and provide support during construction phases.
* Work with regional vendors and manufacturers to specify the appropriate mechanical equipment.
* Be positive and always offer creative, out of the box solutions.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
* Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering and several years of experience with mission-critical air and water cooling HVAC design.
* Ability to research new designs, technologies, and construction methods of data center equipment and facilities.
* Ability to carry new design concepts through exploration, development, and into deployment/construction.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
* Chartered Engineer with a Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
* Experience directly related to data center or mission-critical facility design such as Pharmaceutical, Hospital, or Semi-Conductor projects. Understanding of BIM & CFD modelling.
* Previous consultant negotiation and management skills associated with design, construction, and project execution.
* Experience with fast-track design/build projects and/or multiple significant upgrade projects.
* Experience with large scale technical operations or large-scale compute farms. Knowledge of building codes and regulations.
