Position Description
ESB’s strategy, Driven to Make a Difference: Achieving Net Zero by 2040 sets out a clear pathway to achieve net zero emissions in a way that supports our customers and ensures our continued growth. ESB procurement will be integral to achieving our strategic goals and as such we are committed to embedding sustainability into our procurement procedures.
The Sustainable Procurement Specialist will be responsible for supporting the implementation of sustainable procurement in ESB ensuring alignment with ISO 20400. The specialist will collaborate with business units and procurement teams, developing and communicating sustainable procurement strategies that align with organizational policy and objectives and ensuring successful implementation of sustainable procurement into category and sourcing plans.
This role will also include responsibility to engage with ESB’s supply chain and in particular engage with Suppliers and Contractors on Sustainability and Sustainable Procurement and to identify emerging best practice and general industry trends, using this feedback to support policy development.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead the Sustainable Procurement transformation project which includes alignment with ISO 20400.
* Liaise with the business to ensure that the principles of sustainable procurement are understood and implemented into business strategy and individual procurement processes.
* Work with category and souring managers, and members of the wider procurement team to implement sustainable procurement into category plans and individual processes. This will involve acting as a focal point for collaboration between business and procurement i.e. translating business requirements into a coherent sustainable procurement plan that effectively supports ESB’s targets.
* Develop an external sustainable procurement communication strategy to ensure that our supply chain partners are aware of and support ESB’s Net Zero strategy.
* Develop a set of SMART targets and associated KPI’s relating to sustainable procurement.
* Develop and maintain reports that document performance vs targets and communicate results to key business stakeholders.
* Participate in external industry forums to increase the awareness of and promote ESB’s sustainability objectives.
Experience and Qualifications
* Minimum of 7 years experience in a related field
* Relevant 3rd level degree or equivalent work experience
* In depth knowledge of procurement procedures, EU procurement directives and national procurement law.
* Excellent understanding of Sustainability issues and challenges in the utilities sector
* Stakeholder management, including managing internal and external stakeholder communications and expectations.
* Excellent analytical, communications and interpersonal skills.
* Good understanding of the Supply Chain within the utilities sector including risks and opportunities
* Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively, and to manage multiple workstreams.
* Knowledge of the energy/utilities sector and procurement in high value, technically complex projects
* Strong commercial acumen and influencing skills.
* Knowledge of EU policy and National guidance and legislation in the area of Sustainability, Net Zero and Circular Economy principles
Location
This position will be based in ESB Head Office, Fitzwilliam 27, Dublin 2.

The successful candidate may work flexibly within their jurisdiction with attendance at the workplace for in-person collaboration on at least one anchor day per week. All smart working arrangements are subject to manager approval and ongoing review, based on the operational requirements of the role, the team, and the individual.

This position will report to the Sustainable Procurement Manager.
