Component Engineer/Supplier Manufacturing Engineer

Overview:
As the Component Engineer/Supplier Manufacturing Engineer, you will drive improvement and corrective actions in the quality of components sourced from outside suppliers. You will provide technical support in the selection of suppliers. You will support the development of acceptance criteria for materials, monitor supplier performance to drive corrective actions, and project focus specifically on cost and risk reductions.
Your responsibilities will include:
* Establishing incoming inspection and test procedures and providing technical support to manufacturing to resolve material or supplier related issues.
* Developing new supply sources with purchasing team and qualifying components to specified parameters.
* Assessing potential new suppliers for technical and manufacturing capabilities. Providing technical support for the introduction of components from a new supplier.
* Managing projects to reduce material cost or reduce material supply risks.
* Working with Receiving Improvement teams relating to component usage or design.
* Leading on Process Improvement teams relating to component usage or design.
* Reviewing material specification releases and revisions as required.
* Investigating field failures related to supplier materials. Developing corrective action plan where necessary.
* Managing/participating in teams to conduct business risk assessments and developing action plans to reduce or eliminate risks.
Education and Job Skills:
* NQF level 7 in a relevant discipline and +2 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
* Working technical knowledge and application of concepts, practices and procedures. General understanding of business unit/group function. Will perform this job in a quality system environment.
