About the Role
This role is part of the Network Operations team and is key to the receipt and redistribution of freight across the UK. Freight is received from within the UK and Europe, sorted, organised, and loaded into network-specific requirements. This role influences and affects the service Carousel provides to its key clients.
The ideal Supervisor will work to a high accuracy, at pace, while maintaining a safe working environment. The second key element is the management of our O licence, ensuring full compliance across all areas, maintenance of vehicles, and constant reviews of operating processes looking for best practices and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
* Supervising the receipt, movement & sortation of freight ensuring customer-specific SLA’s are achieved.
* Working to site Health & Safety, environmental, security and quality procedures and associated policies, ensuring work is completed safely in line with the organisation's risk assessments and safety management system.
* Strong cost control of operation and the ability to add value through new initiative ideas.
* Ensuring all transacting activity is in line with Carousel procedures, including using digital devices, systems, and business processes.
* Capturing any non-conformance issues, resolving or escalating as required in line with company processes.
* Ability to follow and instruct others in standard operating procedures and work in a methodical, logical manner, ensuring compliance.
* Conduct regular team briefings, training where appropriate, and 121’s.
* Operate and use mobile plant, mechanical lifting, and handling equipment properly and safely.
* Ensure MHE/FLT’s are safe and compliant (e.g., maintained and checked including MHE, Pump Trucks & Conveyor).
* Ensure housekeeping is carried out on site.
* Embrace and aim to add value by supporting the continuous improvement of the overall operation.
* Promote a team working ethic across all activities, working co-operatively and flexibly within a team to achieve collective goals.
* Support all partners by responding in a timely manner and providing solutions for any blockers the business may encounter.
* Support Client services with any queries and promote a thorough and accurate de-brief to enable better client visibility and service.
* Uphold Operator Licence undertakings, ensuring continuous and effective vehicle operations.
* Provide operational support to the transport operation.
* Ensure compliance with Operator Licensing and maintaining legal standards and best practices.
* Manage preventative maintenance procedures for a mixed fleet of commercial vans and large goods vehicles (HGVs).
* Oversee tachograph compliance and drivers' hours at branch level, managing infringement reports and providing coaching as needed.
What We’re Looking For
* A current full driving licence holder.
* Holder of a Transport Manager's CPC qualification in Road Transport Operations.
* Strong reading, writing and mathematical skills.
* Clear communication skills with focus and attention to detail.
* Capability to problem solve in a pressurised environment.
* Computer literate (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
* Previous experience team leading or supervising.
* Proven experience managing a mixed fleet, with a working knowledge of preventative maintenance systems.
* Strong understanding of Operators Licensing, Road Transport Law, and compliance standards.
* Experience reading KPIs and understanding how the operation affects them.
* Experience of handling ADR shipments.
Basic Details & Benefits Of The Role
* A basic salary of £40,000 per annum depending on experience.
* 40 hours per week, worked 09:00-18:00.
