We are currently expanding our decommissioning team and are looking for a proven cable technician with experience in robust technical understanding of network and infrastructure. The Network & Cable Decommissioning team (NCD) are looking to hire a highly motivated, self-driven cable decommissioning technician who will work closely with project managers, network engineers, and operations teams to recover cabling infrastructure and sanitize legacy abandoned cable. The NCD Tech will be responsible for executing assigned efforts and communicating status updates of those tasks.
Key job responsibilities
1. Physical Decommissioning of network and cabling infrastructure in a Data Center environment.
2. Manage assigned work and priorities through ticketing system and/or workflows.
3. Provide status updates to Stakeholders via ticketing system.
4. Effectively co-ordinate and deliver multiple tasks congruently.
5. Exhibit quality workmanship on all work and maintain Data Center cleanliness.
6. Effectively leverage the logical tools and systems that are provided.
7. Follow all production, safety and quality standards, codes and industry best practices.
8. Collaborate with various Stakeholders to remove obstacles.
9. Read and comprehend datacenter build documentation, and site specific layout material.
10. Travel within geographical work area is required, up to 30% travel outside traditional work area may be required depending on your primary region.
11. Scope effort assigned, validate all work is ready for decommissioning, create change requests to perform work, and timely execute effort that has been assigned.
12. All efforts need to be documented via ticketing system.
A day in the life
1. Decommissioning of network and cabling infrastructure in a Data Center environment.
2. Deliver sustainable and repeatable solutions and processes, always with an eye on improvement.
3. Manage work and priorities through ticketing system and/or workflows.
4. Provide structured feedback on project progress to Stakeholders.
5. Co-ordinate multiple concurrent projects.
6. Exhibit quality workmanship on all work and maintain Data Center cleanliness.
7. Follow all production, safety and quality standards, codes and industry best practices.
8. Collaborate with various Stakeholders to remove project obstacles.
9. Reading and comprehending blueprints and building documentation/redline work.
10. Travel within geographical work area is required, up to 30% travel outside traditional work area may be required possibly including international travel.
11. Manage, check and coordinate all decommissioned materials.
About the team
The Network and Cable Decommissioning team's primary focus is to reclaim capacity for our customers by safely removing decommissioned legacy network equipment and old cabling infrastructure, thus enabling a life cycle approach for the physical layer of our data center network, which will help utilize our existing DC space to its fullest potential.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
1. 3+ years of experience with Cat 5, Cat 6 and OM1 - OS2 fibre optic cabling systems.
2. 3+ years' experience troubleshooting cabling infrastructure connectivity issues, including patch panels and patch cords.
3. 3+ years' experience managing work and priorities through ticketing system and workflows.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
1. Excellent judgement and analytical skills, ability to prioritize tasks based on fluctuating needs.
2. +3 years experience installing/decommissioning large scale Data Centre network infrastructure cabling. Experience of using test equipment, such as VFL, power meter, and OTDR.
3. Ability to work autonomously and co-ordinate projects independently.
