The National Gallery of Ireland ('the Gallery') is seeking a Digital Collections Librarian to join the Library and Archives on a permanent basis.
Reporting to the Head of Library and Archives, the Digital Collections Librarian is responsible for the development, preservation, and accessibility of the library and archive's digital collections.
This role ensures that digital assets, including digitised materials, born-digital content and metadata, are managed effectively and made accessible to researchers, staff and the public.
Playing a central role in collection access and discovery, the Digital Collections Librarian is the primary administrator for digital systems and software and provides expertise and insights on all aspects of digital projects and systems development within the Library and Archives.
Areas of Responsibility:Work with the Library and Archives Team to develop initiatives that align with and support the Gallery's strategic plan.Manage the day-to-day operations and ongoing development of the digital collections platform and associated technologies within the digital environment.
(Systems currently in use include Source Drupal website, CIIM, Portfolio DAMS.
)Oversee the digitisation of collections.Manage workflows, organisation, and long-term preservation of digital assets, ensuring adherence to best practices.Provide training and guidance to staff on best practices for digitisation, digital asset management and metadata creation.Work with colleagues to identify material, in a range of formats, suitable for digitisation.Support the cataloguing and processing of collections and the development of metadata.Initiate and oversee a programme for born-digital assets.Work with colleagues to develop a digital preservation programme for library and archive digital collections.Manage the care, maintenance and training requirements for digital collections equipment.Supervise and train staff.Monitor the impact and reach of digital collections and related resources, prepare reports as required.Explore and develop innovative digital collections content and technological initiatives supporting new ways to engage with the collections, support digital storytelling and scholarly initiatives.Grade and Salary The salary for this position will be in accordance with the Engineer Grade III / Assistant Keeper II (PPC) pay scale, as per the 1 March 2025 pay adjustments.
The starting salary will be at the first point on the scale, €39,083 per annum.
