We are seeking an experienced K8s core engineer to join our dynamic team at eBay in Dublin, Ireland. This role requires a solid understanding of Linux kernel, container, and Kubernetes, along with proficiency in programming languages such as Go and Python.
The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of experience in the field, focusing on kernel development and OS upgrading in a timely manner. Additionally, you will contribute to open-source projects and implement observability practices to monitor and ensure the reliability of our systems.
Responsibilities:
1. Develop stable and performance-optimized Linux OS for Kubernetes platform, building eBay in-house Linux kernel and OS images.
2. Design, develop, and maintain optimized Linux OS upgrade management system.
3. Manage various runtimes in eBay cloud, including containers, Kata, and virtual machines.
4. Develop high-performance applications in Go and Python.
5. Contribute to kernel development and optimization for improved system performance.
6. Develop BPF-based tools for eBay cloud OS issue diagnostics and BPF/Cilium based network segmentation and mesh system.
7. Implement observability tools and practices to monitor system performance and health.
8. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to adopt/verify new optimized Linux OS.
9. Contribute to open-source projects.
10. Stay updated with the latest developments in kernel enhancements and security practices.
Qualifications:
1. Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
2. At least 5 years of proven experience on Linux, familiar with Linux kernel development, and have knowledge of OS internals, especially the basic components, like process scheduler, memory management, file system, and network.
3. Strong programming skills in C++, Go, and Python.
4. Expertise in using Kubernetes for orchestrating containerized applications to build patching systems.
5. Familiarity with network protocols, especially TCP/IP stack.
6. Experience with observability tools and practices.
7. Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
8. Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
Preferred Skills:
1. Experience with Linux kernel development/triage.
2. Experience contributing to open-source projects.
3. Certifications in Kernel, networking, Kubernetes, or related fields.
4. Understanding of Linux kernel tracing technologies or BPF is a plus.
5. Understanding of Intel x86 architecture is a plus.
6. Understanding of Qemu/KVM/Openvswitch is a plus.
7. Experience in a high-traffic, large-scale environment.
8. Familiarity with additional programming languages or frameworks.
