Position Overview
The Legal Operations Manager will cover Private Debt Legal Fund Operations worldwide including Ireland, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Cayman Islands, and the United States. In these jurisdictions StepStone operates investment funds which generate larger volumes of standardized legal work. Such work, amongst others, includes: Document management, fund company secretarial services, tax disclosure and tax filing services, AML services, services in the context of portfolio investments such as subscription forms or NDAs, services in the context of regular legal updates of investment funds, creation and liquidation of blockers and various services for our co-investment business. The Legal Operations Manager will be responsible for structuring all fund legal operations efficiently, managing external service providers and eventually leading a small internal team. The ideal candidate should have a track record of successfully managing volume business in an investment funds or similar context, supported by a variety of external fund/legal service providers using different IT platforms and systems.
Essential Job Functions:
1. ‘Own’ legal operational processes for funds and associated workflow and output
2. Strategically improve operating model for investment fund’ legal operations work and promote outsourcing as well as appropriate use of technology
3. Efficiently manage current operating model / processes focusing on interfaces between external fund/legal service providers and internal teams. Foster collaboration between different service providers and internal teams and strive to integrate processes, systems, and data
4. Instruct, supervise, and control external fund/legal service providers improving service quality and reducing costs
5. Address immediate delivery needs of the organization, solve problems, provide solutions
Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
6. Have experience in analyzing, assessing, improving, and institutionalizing processes
7. Have substantial experience managing administrative, data or document based, interface intensive processes on multiple platforms
8. Hands-on personality, rolling up sleeves and getting services delivered. The expectations are that around 50% of the time will be allocated to actual service delivery as opposed to management
9. Have 10 plus years’ experience with a large asset manager, asset-servicing company, a company secretarial service provider, or a large Bank with a similar scope of operational processes
10. Either a legal degree and relevant subject matter expertise with strong process management skills or vice versa.
