Explorium, Ireland’s Sport and Science centre in Sandyford, Dublin is a fun, engaging, inspirational and educational experience for all ages. In a unique venue (size of Croke park!) with 100s of interactive sports and science exhibits that challenge the mind and body.
We want to inspire curious minds to discover and learn the wonders of science and sport and make people feel and think differently after a visit to Explorium. We aim to bring science to life and make it relevant and popular culture while also highlighting the importance of health, exercise, activity and well-being. We are currently seeking a part-time Facilities Assistant to work on a rostered shift basis.
Job description
* To assist the Head of Maintenance to ensure that the building, facilities and resources are well maintained.
* General maintenance duties - Preventative maintenance, basic repairs, cosmetic upkeep, and simple appliance installations. Repair and paint where/when needed. Maintain refuse and recycling needs.
* Assisting with the routine maintenance of all exhibits. This includes exhibit lighting and all the various exhibit components (mechanical, technical, electronic).
* Performing daily rounds of the exhibit areas and components to ensure in full working order and report malfunctions.
* Ability to handle power tools and perform some basic maintenance on interactive science exhibits.
* Prioritise requests for repairs, moving/storing of exhibits/furniture/materials/equipment.
* Regular checking of all fire equipment, building and apparatus and repairs of any damage.
* Health & safety checks for risks and hazards and reporting of same.
* Ongoing improvements to the appearance of the interior of the premises.
* Checking, marking and cataloguing equipment and materials as appropriate.
* Using initiative when necessary to solve problems to ensure safety and cleanliness of premises.
* Assisting with supervision of any contracted workers on site regarding any work that is undertaken.
* Routine opening and closing of premises as required in the absence of the Head of Maintenance.
* Checking and securing doors and gates.
* Assisting with health & safety, emergency evacuations, fire marshalls etc.
* Liaising with cleaning and maintenance staff as required and ensuring they are fully briefed on health & safety issues.
Candidates should have:
* Leaving Certificate or relevant certificate course completed.
* Previous experience of general maintenance and upkeep experience.
* Working knowledge of hand and power tools.
* Knowledge of basic mechanical and electro-mechanical fundamentals.
* An understanding of mechanical and physical principles and the ability to apply them in maintenance.
* Time Management.
* Ability to work under pressure and to strict deadlines.
* Positive health & safety attitude.
* Experience in building and facility maintenance.
* Knowledge of health & safety requirements.
* Knowledge of cleaning standards and COSHH regulations.
* Excellent communication, customer service and interpersonal skills.
* Must be able to commute easily to Blackglen Road, Sandyford.
* A reliable, flexible, organised and responsible disposition.

Job Type: Part-time
Pay: €13.00-€16.00 per hour
