Job Description Summary
As our R&D Scientist II at BD Biosciences, you will contribute to the development of new products and workflows by executing experiments and supporting reagent and assay development in a cross-functional team. Your responsibilities will include performing studies using flow cytometry, applying scientific principles in immunology and sample manipulation, analyzing data, and preparing technical documents for internal reviews. You will also support system-level requirements, protocol preparation, and technical reporting, while troubleshooting and providing innovative solutions to improve BD products and processes. Additionally, you will play a key role in communicating the broader impact of design features and test results to cross-functional teams, ensuring successful product development.
About The Role
As our R&D Scientist II, you will contribute to new product and/or workflow development in a cross-functional team supporting the definition, design, and execution of reagent and assay development activities. This includes execution of workflow, data analysis, preparation of protocols, and work closely with team leads to support troubleshooting of technical issues. Additionally, you will support SVV activities throughout all phases of the product development as required. This includes support the design of test methods and test strategy, development and execution of formal protocols, analysis and interpretation of results, and communication of results and their impact through written reports, design reviews, and interactive discussions.
Main Responsibilities Will Include
* Conduct experiments using flow cytometry and apply knowledge in scientific principles, immunology, sample manipulation, and/or immunoassays to influence best practice laboratory procedures and study designs.
* Execution and analysis of studies in line with good laboratory practice and generating technical documents and presentations for internal technical reviews.
* Support system-level requirements, preparation of protocols and technical reports.
* Exercise sound, independent judgement and apply systems thinking, problem solving, debugging, and troubleshooting to generate innovative ideas to improve BD products or processes.
* Understand and communicate the broader impact of design features, test methods, and results to cross-functional teams.
About You
* BSc, MSc or PhD in Immunology, Cell Biology, Clinical Laboratory Science or related scientific field with a minimum of 2 years relevant experience or a combination of equivalent education and experience.
* Shown proficiency in completing experiments independently, conducting analysis, and interpreting experimental results & applying creative problem-solving skills to novel or complex application.
* Experience in flow cytometry applications, which may include immunophenotyping, apoptosis, cell proliferation, cell activation, receptor expression, and/or intracellular calcium flux.
* Experience handling and processing infectious blood samples in a Biosafety Level 2 laboratory using universal precautions.
* Excellent written and oral communication skills.
This is a 6-Month FTC role based in Limerick.
