The Airfield Electrical Systems Engineer is responsible for overseeing the operation, maintenance, and development of airfield electrical systems to ensure optimal performance, safety, and compliance with regulatory requirements.
This role plays a critical part in maintaining the reliability of systems such as the Airfield Lighting Control and Monitoring System (ALCMS) and Advanced Visual Docking Guidance System (AVDGS), supporting critical operations and succession planning, and mitigating risks associated with the organizations airfield infrastructure.
This role will report directly to Airfield Electrical Delivery Manager, however will collaborate and work closely with the Airfield Systems Manager to ensure a full and in-depth knowledge of the ALCMs and all associated maintenance requirements for the airfield electrical and specialist systems.
This role will be responsible for reviewing / amending critical maintenance plans and creating new maintenance plans and schedules where required in conjunction with the Airfield Systems Manager.
The role will support and provide technical expertise to the wider Airfield Technician team members and maintenance contractors to ensure best in class work-practice standards on all systems, including but not limited to; Airfield ground lighting (AGL), Aircraft visual docking guidance (AVDGS), Airfield lighting control and monitoring system(ALCMS), Airfield Substation Systems including backup power supply units, High Mast Lighting, AirNav systems and allassociated 3rd party software maintenance systems.
System Operations & Maintenance Oversee the operation and maintenance of airfield electrical systems, including ALCMS, AVDGS, and related infrastructure.
Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues to ensure minimal disruption to airfield operations.
Monitor system performance to identify potential inefficiencies or faults and address them promptly.
Develop and execute maintenance schedules in coordination with operational teams.
Develop standard planned maintenance procedures library for critical PM and Repair tasks that can be provided to Team leads to ensure all team members adhere too.
Obtain and have a deep understanding of all the airfield electrical critical systems, enabling full ownership and operational continuity.
Support Airfield Electrical Delivery Manager in carrying out ad hoc audits of team/individual maintenance and provide feedback reports and learnings to support maintenance optimisation and continuous improvement.
Execute and provide technical maintenance expertise and support for all airfield systems particularly in the absence of the Airfield Systems Manager with a primary focus on the ALCMS In conjunction with Airfield Electrical Delivery Manager and Team Leads, monitor airfield electrical and specialist systems to address any issues or anomalies in a prompt manner.
Drive the culture of Always Better and Continuous improvement, identifying and implementing enhancements to airfield system efficiency and reliability.
Support Airfield Systems Manager in delivery of Qtrly inspections of airfield electrical systems and compile comprehensive condition and performance reports on system recommending timely maintenance or capital investment improvements.
Work collaboratively with Airfield Systems Manager and relevant key stakeholders to ensure an in depth understanding and knowledge of the Dublin Airport ALCMS, to enable full ownership of this system, ensuring full operational continuity.
Support Airfield Systems Manager and Airfield Electrical Delivery Manager in reviewing all associated Planned Maintenance to ensure the optimum and effective maintenance plan is being delivered and adhered to.
Risk Management & Contingency Planning Identify and address knowledge gaps personally and within the technician team.
Act as a key resource for mitigating risks related to single points of failure, particularly in areas of specialist knowledge.
Ensure compliance with Airfield electrical safety standards and regulations governing airfield systems.
Support Airfield Systems Manager in taking learnings from systems faults to prevent repeated faults thus enabling the Airfield Electrical Delivery manager to brief teams on any findings and improvement requirements.
Strategic Development Collaborate with stakeholders to design and implement upgrades and enhancements to airfield systems.
Contribute to future development plans for airfield systems, including integration of emerging technologies.
Ensure to have an oversight of future development plans of the airfield system and meet at least once a quarter with Airfield Systems Manager and Infrastructure Project team to obtain update and status of projects to feed back to maintenance team.
Stakeholder Engagement Work closely with Airfield Civils, Airfield Operations, Infrastructure teams, AirNav Ireland, and other stakeholders to ensure seamless functionality of systems.
Act as the primary POC for all Asset Management Maintenance Contractors working on the Airfield Electrical and critical assets noted within, ensuring they adhere to Asset Management processes and Dublin Airport Health and Safety requirements.
Act as the Asset Management point of contact for Infrastructure SPMs and specialist vendors during system installation, upgrades, and maintenance to ensure no risk to existing assets and functionality/availability.
Team Development & Training Mentor and guide team members to foster a culture of continuous improvement and technical excellence.
Develop and deliver specialist maintenance support training and learning workshops for the asset management team(s) to ensure effective, consistent and the highest maintenance standards across all team members.
Compliance & Reporting Ensure all systems comply with relevant regulatory and safety standards including but not limited to ISO, NSAI etc.
Maintain accurate documentation of system performance/condition, maintenance schedules, and incident reports.
Provide regular updates to senior management on system status, risks, and improvement initiatives.
Given the critical nature of this role, there will be a requirement to respond to issues that may arise outside of normal working hours Experience Given the nature and environment of this role it is desired that candidates have a minimum of 4 years hands on experience in an airfield or similar live 24/7 operational environment.
Experience of airfield electrical infrastructure systems or similar type industry experience on electrical systems and control systems of this nature is desirable.

Education & Qualifications An Electrical Engineering Degree or Equivalent technical qualification within experience in control & PLC systems; or An Electrical Craft Certificate or Equiv alent technical qualification within a minimum of 4 years experience within airfield electrical or similar electrical control systems.
