Special Lecturer in Palliative Medicine
University College Dublin
Based in The Education & Research Centre in Harold’s Cross
The purpose of this position is to provide undergraduate education in palliative medicine to UCD medical students. The post holder will pursue a research interest leading to a higher degree and help the Professor of Palliative Medicine to supervise the work of undergraduate research students and postgraduate research assistants.
The post holder will engage in undergraduate medical curriculum planning, coordination, and teaching and will work closely with the Trinity College Dublin (TCD) affiliated special lecturer.
The role will include coordination of postgraduate teaching including Palliative Medicine Grand Rounds, involvement in the development of the Academic Department of Palliative Medicine, policy development, and committee work as directed. A small clinical commitment attaches to this position.
Minimum Requirements
1. Hold a recognised postgraduate qualification accepted as an entry point to higher medical training in Palliative Medicine (MRCPI, MRCP, MICGP or MRCGP)
2. Full registration in the General, Specialist or Trainee Specialist register of Medical Practitioners maintained by the Medical Council in Ireland
3. At least one year’s experience in Palliative Medicine or a related specialty at Registrar or Specialist Registrar level
4. 4+ years post-graduate experience
5. Experience of student education
6. Can demonstrate a high standard of clinical competence
7. Completed a recognised Educators course
8. Experience in research
9. Experience in teaching / delivering presentations on recognised courses or at conferences
10. Publication of articles in professional journals
