About the Role
Join our dedicated team providing specialist engineering services to Networks businesses in transmission and distribution infrastructure projects. Our team specializes in:
* Civil and structural designs on wide-ranging transmission and distribution infrastructure projects.
* Developing standards, material design development, and analysis.
Main Responsibilities
* Work on civil/structural design aspects of transmission and distribution infrastructure projects, material specification, and project management in our Transmission and Distribution Delivery Design department.
* Design using non-linear finite element design software for structures such as lattice towers up to 50m, wood poles, and innovative transmission structures.
* Design transmission foundations (reinforced pad, piles, pile caps).
* Collaborate with structural detailers to create detailed designs and drawings plans for transmission line projects.
* Develop project designs, prepare construction documentation.
* Ensure designs are implemented to the required standard through site oversight.
* Undertake health and safety design coordination.
Materials Development and Testing
* Witness full-scale destructive tower loading tests, wood pole load testing, steel component load testing at international supplier locations.
* Support introducing new materials to support ESB's networks for net-zero strategy, including fibre-reinforced polymer poles and non-destructive testing of structures.
Standards Development
* Update current standards and develop future standards (ESB standards, Irish standards, and international standards) based on civil and structural design knowledge.
* Engage with Cigré and CEATI collaborative bodies and expand capability through virtual and in-person networking at working group meetings.
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
* Minimum 2 years' experience in a design office.
* Strong work ethic with clear focus on delivery to safety, time, quality, and cost objectives.
* Strong technical capability.
* Ability to prioritize with excellent organizational skills.
* Detailed knowledge & experience of safety principles in design.
* Proven track record of project co-ordination to highest technical standards.
* Driver's license and access to a car.
* Experience in delivering work packages for the construction phase of projects.
* Knowledge and experience of engineering design software – AutoCAD, Microstation, and Microsoft Project.
* Experience in developing material specifications and materials tender assessments.
* Knowledge and experience of ISO Quality systems.
Qualifications
* Level 8 Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering or equivalent work experience is essential.
Location
Your base will be at one of our offices situated at One Dublin Airport Central or Eastgate Cork.
