Amazon Web Services (AWS) is seeking a Civil, Structural & Architectural (CSA) Design Manager to join its design team in Dublin, Ireland.
Our team is responsible for achieving world-class uptime for our customers and developing a fleet of buildings that emphasize security, safety, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness, while finding new ways to meet AWS’s growing demand.
As a CSA Design Manager at AWS, you will lead designs for AWS DCs in our Europe, Middle East & Africa (EMEA) geography and impact other projects around the world. You will be part of a highly creative and efficient design team comprised of Architects, Engineers, and Designers tasked with solving problems and challenging the status quo. As a subject matter expert, you will have a direct impact on the design of prototypical DC facilities, provide technical guidance, solve large-scale implementation issues, and be responsible for CSA design requirements.
Key job responsibilities
1. Develop & maintain Basis of Design, prototype design, and template specifications for one of Civil, Structural or Architectural disciplines.
2. CSA Design lead on Data Centre projects with the following duties:
1. Prepare conceptual site master plan designs based on information available from the due diligence site assessments.
2. Establish capital project design budgets for existing region and new region deployment.
3. Collaborate with AWS finance teams to prepare funding applications and secure funding.
4. Develop design and permitting schedule for the project based on AWS standard design periods and local permitting requirements.
5. Partner and communicate with internal customers to establish project scope, schedule, and deliverables.
6. Work in partnership with AWS Engineering leads to schedule project engineering resources and create, review, and release RFPs for engagement of external design vendors, including review bids and make recommendations.
3. As CSA Design lead on Data Centre projects, manage our external design consultants through the design and construction process ensuring high standards of deliverables are completed on schedule.
1. Coordinate and manage the input of internal structural, architectural and civil engineers during design and at design deliverable review.
2. Coordinate with internal and external Mechanical, Electrical, Controls, Fire and Cabling design engineers.
3. Influence and manage deviations to the AWS reference design based on localization, site-specific and internal customer needs.
4. Create and track metrics related to cost, quality, and duration of design.
5. Collect data from operations, construction and commissioning teams as designs are implemented.
6. Create/maintain project documentation before, during, and after construction.
7. Think outside of the box to find innovative solutions during design and construction to comply with local regulations and reduce costs without negative impacts on quality or reliability.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
The CSA Design Manager is expected to be a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in their chosen field while being experienced across at least 2 of the 3 CSA disciplines.
Bachelor’s degree in Architecture or Engineering from an accredited school with 5 years working experience with 3 years experience in design of industrial or mission-critical facilities inclusive of working experience coordinating design with MEP engineering disciplines and the design coordination required with MEP on industrial facilities.
Expertise in creating, reviewing, and approving C, S or A designs and documentation.
Experience in building permitting and fire permitting either by inputting by discipline or leading.
Ability to develop new design concepts and problem-solving through exploration, design, testing, and deployment.
Develop and communicate conceptual designs, managing cost and schedule and design deliverables.
Create and maintain project documentation during design and construction.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Master's degree in Architecture and/or Architecture/Engineering license with +5 years experience in Data Center design and construction.
- Project Management Certificate.
- Vendor and consultant management skills.
- Knowledge of building codes and construction techniques.
- Managing a discipline design team and coordinating design inputs from other disciplines.
- Expertise in creating, reviewing and approving design vendor RFP, bids, design budgets.
