Fota Wildlife Park are currently recruiting for a Lead General Operative who will be responsible for overseeing and guiding a team of General Operatives to ensure the effective and efficient completion of daily operational tasks that supports Fota Wildlife Park's operations and visitor experience.
The role will include organising work schedules, allocating resources, and directly engaging in hands-on tasks, including site maintenance, groundskeeping, and general upkeep to create a safe, well-maintained environment for staff and visitors. The Team Lead will work closely with the Operations Manager to set daily objectives and ensure that all tasks are executed to a high standard, with a strong focus on safety, teamwork, and efficiency.
The ideal candidate will have relevant experience, a full driving license, and the ability to manage a diverse set of tasks in a hands-on, physically demanding role.
Key Responsibilities
Daily Coordination and Planning:
* Collaborate with the Operations Manager to establish daily, weekly, and monthly working schedules and routines to meet operational requirements.
* Organize and plan the daily work schedules for the General Operative team to ensure efficient task prioritisation and timely completion.
Team Management
* Oversee team rotas, holiday schedules, and employee availability to maintain adequate staffing levels.
* Ensure all team members are informed of their daily tasks and work assignments and support them in achieving high-quality results.
Operational Oversight
* Regularly update and communicate with the Operations Manager on work progress, any issues, and proactively communicate any changes to plans.
* Manage car park operations to ensure a smooth flow for visitors while maintaining a positive first impression of the park.
Grounds and Facility Maintenance:
* Conduct routine tasks such as grass cutting, strimming, litter collection, pruning, cleaning, and tidying to improve and maintain the appearance of the grounds while adhering to safety protocols.
* Plant and care for trees, shrubs, and other vegetation to improve and maintain the Park’s physical appearance.
* Ensure all practices for waste disposal are conducted in line with best practice sustainability aligning with the Park’s conservation goals.
Animal Care:
* Gather and prepare feed for animals, ensuring proper quantities and timing to meet animal care standards.
* Support Fota Wildlife Park’s core values of conservation, education, research, visitor experience, and sustainability by being instrumental in fostering greater public understanding of the threats to biodiversity and conservation of animal and plant habitats.
* This role demands a proactive, hands-on approach, ensuring that all tasks are completed to a high standard, in alignment with the team’s objectives and site requirements.
Vehicle Fleet:
* Oversee the daily operation of the tour train, liaise with the Operations Manager and external contractors to ensure the tour train is well maintained and operates safely and efficiently for visitors.
* Ensure all vehicles utilised by the general operatives are properly maintained, cleaned, and in good working order, promptly reporting all issues to the Operations Manager.
* Provide team members with training on safe vehicle operation, including loading procedures, safe driving practices within the park, and emergency response measures. Reinforce adherence to safety protocols to protect both staff and visitors.
Key Skills & Requirements
* Prior work experience in a general operative or team lead role required, demonstrating the ability to manage teams and oversee day-to-day operations.
* A full driving licence is essential. A full B+E licence preferred, or the candidate should be actively working towards obtaining it.
* This role involves the regular use of machinery and equipment, requiring physical stamina for tasks such as manual handling, lifting, and operating equipment daily.
* Candidates must be willing to work on weekends and bank holidays as required, contributing to seamless park operations and visitor experience.
