We are seeking a Principal R&D Engineer on a permanent basis to join our team.
Boston Scientific Neuromodulation technologies help patients manage chronic pain and neurological conditions. Our solutions include WaveWriter Alpha Spinal Cord Stimulator (SCS) Systems to treat chronic pain and Vercise Genus Deep Brain Stimulation Systems to treat movement disorders such as Parkinson’s disease.

About the role:
We are looking for an innovative Principal R&D Engineer to join our team. You have researched, designed, developed, and tested medical devices but want to go to the next level. The ideal candidate already has a background in mechanical or biomedical engineering and a strong track record of impactful contributions but is ready to provide a new vision for therapy solutions. This role is based in our facility in Clonmel, Ireland.
Responsibilities:
1. Act as an independent leader in a supportive team environment
2. Effective design, development, and project engineering
3. Engage physicians, patients, sales reps, marketing, and others to collect feedback for devices under development
4. Deliver meaningful innovation and submit novel intellectual property
5. Create specifications and perform engineering analyses
6. Design for cost-effective manufacturability
7. Develop and analyze project scopes and schedules
8. Define and validate manufacturing processes, support engineering builds, and verify product performance
9. Train and mentor entry-level engineers
10. Stay abreast of emerging technologies, trends, and competition
11. Deliver designs that meet goals such as performance, standards, manufacturability, reliability, and cost
12. Generate regulatory audit-worthy design and risk management documentation
13. Experience as a design originator/owner and project engineer in the medical device industry, responsible for new implantable and external device designs, materials, equipment, and processes
Education: Education in Mechanical or Biomedical engineering with a B.S. and 7+ years of experience or M.S. and 5+ years of work experience commercializing product.
Minimum Requirements:
1. Direct experience utilizing SolidWorks 3D CAD and drafting standards (e.g., ANSI Y14.5)
2. Experience executing projects through commercial launch
Preferred qualifications:
1. Experience involving/supporting most of the following: implantable leads, implantable pulse generators, surgical tools, access instruments, or handheld and wearable devices
2. Animal studies, preclinical studies, cadaver lab, field research and clinical studies to evaluate the usability and performance of designed products
