Abbott Ireland Diabetes Care Division Donegal
The Abbott Diabetes Care division based in Donegal Town manufactures FreeStyle blood glucose test strips and FreeStyle Sensors for use in diabetes management. Among Abbott Diabetes Care leading brands are the FreeStyle Precision, FreeStyle Lite and FreeStyle Libre system.
Purpose of the role
Responsible for troubleshooting of bespoke manufacturing equipment faults in a high volume regulated environment. You will monitor equipment via observation, operations reports and data analysis, looking at metrics such as MTTR (Mean time to Repair) and MTBF (Mean Time between Fails) for specific faults, and put in place plans to fix.
The Shift Support Engineer will be required to fault find to component level complex systems comprising of Pneumatic, Electrical, Mechanical and Optical components which are controlled by a PLC. You will be required to lead the repair of these systems in conjunction with a team of shift based technical leads and day shift based Engineers. The role provides 7 days/week production support on a rotating pattern.
Responsibilities
1. Maintaining Equipment availability in line with production requirements.
2. Fault find and repair complex manufacturing equipment to component level.
3. Analysis of equipment performance data and develop action plans to improve.
4. Develop design changes via Root cause analysis, for improvement in performance and to prevent future occurrences.
5. Be able to work directly hands-on and able to apply advanced electrical and mechanical diagnosis skills.
6. Mentor and Educate Operations and Technical lead team members.
Requirements
1. Substantial experience (10yrs + ideally) supporting complex equipment in a high-volume regulated environment.
2. Ability to Fault find using your multi-disciplinary experience on Equipment utilising Pneumatics, Mechanical components, Electrical and Vision Systems issues controlled by PLC and database interactions.
3. Have ability to learn other engineering skills outside of your core area of expertise, e.g Data Analysis and Interpretation, Continuous Improvement and Problem-Solving methodologies – Lean, Six sigma.
4. Excellent communication, planning and organisational skills are all essential, as well as the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
5. Ability to learn quickly, use your initiative and work as part of a team.
6. Self-motivated, action and results oriented.
7. Have logical and methodical approach to problem solving.
