Meta seeks a highly motivated team player to serve as Lead Counsel, EMEA Disputes. You will manage significant and complex multi-national litigation and contentious regulatory matters from a strategic perspective and across areas of law, and advise internal teams on legal risks (including stemming from newly proposed legislation). The role requires good judgment, an actual work ethic, and a keen interest in learning about new technologies and areas of the law. Meta welcomes applications from the widest range of individuals eligible to apply and particularly encourages applications from those who would increase the diversity of the company.Lead Counsel, EMEA Disputes ResponsibilitiesSupervise and direct outside counsel on multiple complex litigation before civil courts and contentious regulatory matters, with a focus on intellectual property law, consumer law, artificial intelligence, and other emerging laws affecting the technology sector.Guide and execute litigation strategy in relation to high-profile, precedent setting matters with national authorities as well as pending before national and European courts.Support the collection and production of accurate information in external submissions and disclosures.Engage proactively in cross functional teams to provide internal legal advice, with a particular focus on assessing and mitigating regulatory and litigation risk.Effectively collaborate with outside counsel on regulatory and litigation matters.Partner and coordinate with key internal stakeholders such as other legal teams, and public policy, communications, business and product teams.Minimum QualificationsQualified to practice law in a European Union member state.5+ years litigation experience, including experience working on multiple matters before European higher and/or appellate courts. If you are in private practice, you should work in a regulatory or litigation department. If you are an in-house lawyer you should work on regulatory investigations or litigation as a core part of your role.Experience in civil law jurisdictions.A demonstrated capacity to thrive in a hard working environment and to make sound judgments and smart decisions enabling the completion of several simultaneous projects to tight deadlines.Demonstrated interpersonal skills and an absolute commitment to professionalism and collegiality.Accuracy and drafting capacity that can be used in a commercial setting with business stakeholders.Interest in emerging technologies and devices with a demonstrated capacity to provide concise and business-focused legal advice.Familiarity with existing and emerging laws and regulation affecting the technology sector.Flexibility and eagerness to work on a broad range of legal matters.Meta requires all employed attorneys to have a law degree or equivalent certificate to permit the practice of law and be appropriately licensed and authorized to practice law for the company in their assigned work location. Unless prohibited under local law, an attorney must hold a current practicing certificate (including where required from the relevant authority in the jurisdiction of the assigned work location) or the local law equivalent bar registration or license as may be applicable.Preferred QualificationsExperience or training in intellectual property/copyright law.Experience in regulatory investigations and litigation involving Consumer law.Experience in litigation before the CJEU (Court of Justice of the European Union) or General Court.Understanding of the fundamental legal issues impacting the litigation and regulatory enforcement environment affecting the technology sector.Qualified to practice law in Italy or fluent in Italian.About MetaMeta builds technologies that help people connect, find communities, and grow businesses.
