Overview We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Head of Operations to lead our operations team in a personal care manufacturing environment.
In this pivotal role, you will be integral to the successful delivery of high-quality products, ensuring efficient and compliant operations across production, warehousing, planning, health & safety, engineering, and procurement functions.
Reporting to the CEO, this role requires a results-driven leader who is skilled at managing complex operations, optimising production processes, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and implementing strategies to improve efficiency, product quality, and cost-effectiveness.
The successful candidate will have substantial experience in personal care or FMCG production environments, coupled with strong leadership and process-oriented skills.
Key Responsibilities Production Management Oversee and optimise production processes to meet quality standards, efficiency targets, and delivery timelines.
Oversee production schedules, ensuring adherence to plans and minimising disruptions.
Be the champion for On-Time In-Full (OTIF) delivery and Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) metrics, driving improvements across the operation.
Implement and monitor KPIs to drive continuous improvement in production output and waste reduction.
Collaborate with R&D and NPI teams to integrate new product lines into production seamlessly.
Warehouse Operations Oversee warehouse and logistics operations to ensure efficient stock handling, storage, and dispatch.
Develop inventory management strategies to minimise holding costs while ensuring availability.
Ensure inventory accuracy levels are maintained at >99.5% Health & Safety Champion a culture of safety across all operations, ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation.
Regularly review risk assessments and lead initiatives to reduce workplace hazards.
Site lead for Environmental, Health & Safety and coordination of the on-site Health & Safety committee to ensure we are an accident-free site.
Support, comply and ensure complicity with the Company Handbook, Quality and Environmental standards, and all other Company policies and procedures.
Oversee engineering and maintenance teams to ensure machinery and equipment are fully operational.
Oversee preventative maintenance schedules with the team and ensure timely resolution of technical issues.
Lead the way on automation projects to drive efficiencies across all production processes and lines.
Procurement Lead procurement efforts to source raw materials, packaging components and supplies at optimal cost and quality.
Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and negotiate favourable supply contracts.
Regulatory Compliance & Quality Control: Ensure compliance with relevant FDA, ISO, and other regulatory requirements in all operational activities.
Collaborate with and support the quality function, ensuring products meet all design and regulatory specifications.
Partner with the Quality team to identify, resolve, and prevent operational issues related to product quality.
Develop and manage the operational budget, ensuring adherence to cost control measures and financial targets.
Identify cost-saving opportunities and work to implement process improvements to reduce waste and inefficiency.
Leadership & Team Management Lead and mentor department heads, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment.
Set clear objectives and provide guidance to achieve departmental and company-wide goals.
Develop and implement operational strategies to optimise production efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance product quality.
Foster a culture of continuous improvement, collaboration, and accountability.
Develop long-term operational plans to scale production and support business growth.
Regularly report on Manufacturing activities to the Board, Executive and Management teams, ensuring accurate and timely reporting of the relevant Key Performance Indicators.
Experience & Qualifications Proven experience in Senior Operations/Production management role within personal care or FMCG production environments.
Strong knowledge of production processes, supply chain management, and regulatory compliance.
Experience of working to ISO 22716 & or ISO 13485 standards would be an advantage.
Demonstrated experience managing production scheduling and ensuring adherence to operational plans.
Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or similar process improvement methodologies.
Skills Deep understanding of OTIF and OEE metrics, with a proven track record of delivering measurable improvements.
Exceptional organisational and process-driven skills with a sharp focus on operational efficiency.
Strong problem-solving abilities and an aptitude for managing competing priorities.
Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills, with a demonstrated ability to inspire and motivate teams.
Proficiency in using ERP systems and other relevant software for operations management.
