Colas JV (CJW) is a joint venture company consisting of Colas Teoranta and Colas Ltd. The company maintains and operates a network of almost 300km of motorway/dual carriageway with an additional 100km of slip/link roads for Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII). Operations are based in four depots in Kinnegad, Athlone, Nenagh, and Ennis.
We Are Seeking Motorway Maintenance Operatives
We are currently seeking full-time Motorway Maintenance Operatives to join our teams in Nenagh, Athlone, Kinnegad, and Ennis. Part-time or seasonal applicants may also be considered pending suitability.
Responsibilities
* To carry out all aspects of motorway maintenance, including cyclic maintenance and minor repair works (fencing, kerbs, sound barrier, manholes, bollards, and the like).
* To participate in and deliver safety-critical winter service, e.g., salting and snow clearance of roads, bridges, footways, and cycle routes.
* To work in first-line response as a member of an incident response unit for incidents on the motorway, to assist and support emergency services as required.
* To assist members of the public and other personnel when needed.
Main Activities
* Conducting various maintenance works to a high standard on high-speed motorways and associated roads.
* Carrying out a wide range of works such as grass and hedge cutting, small drainage repairs, boundary and safety fence/barrier repairs, gully cleaning, and routine tidying of depots and the network, including litter picking, post/sign replacements, and minor surfacing repairs.
* Setting up traffic management systems and operating them.
* To enable you to carry out duties, you will be required to be able to drive a range of vehicles, both manual and automatic (incl. salt spreading trucks).
* Completing work records, paperwork, and any other documentation required by company procedures.
* Observing and promoting all aspects of health and safety to the highest level.
* Carrying out patrols of the road network to ensure the safety of road users.
* Carrying out the watchman function by communicating back any issues that may arise on the network.
* Communicating with and assisting members of the public and colleagues when required.
* Carrying out any other tasks appropriate to the role, as deemed necessary from time to time.
Skills, Experience, and Training
* Solas Safepass
* 2nd-level education
* A background in farming, landscaping (hard or soft), groundwork, roads maintenance, or other similar activities
* Desirable:
o Solas CSCS Signing Lighting Guarding (SLG, 3-day)
o Health & Safety at Roadworks (1-day)
o Solas CSCS Telescopic Handler
o Experience of Traffic Management, particularly on high-speed roads
o Experience in the use of technology (use of tablets, smartphones for works records)
o Full C Driving Licence (7.5t and greater)
Competencies
* Flexibility/adaptability to cope with the variety of work associated with the role
* Participate in standby rotas to provide emergency cover to ensure effective operation 365 days a year/24 hours a day, in accordance with Transport Infrastructure Ireland requirements
* Ability to work on own initiative and to support emergency services during incident response duties.
* Good communication skills to liaise with various public services when required and to present a professional image to members of the public
* Ability to work effectively in a small team
* A significant amount of training specific to the role is provided, and a willingness to learn and to develop in order to gain qualifications required to carry out the duties involved is essential
