Job Description
The Associate General Counsel, Labour and Employment (L&E) Lawyer specializes in laws & regulations/policies & practices as it pertains to employees, including in the areas of benefits and compensation across the Europe region. Interprets laws and legal frameworks and provides practical solutions to the business, aligned with the company’s global strategy. Is closely connected with internal stakeholders and understands their challenges; recommends best practices to improve processes, policies, and legal documents. Stays informed of industry trends that may influence work.
The role will support NIQ for the Europe region. The position will be expected to work as part of cross-functional teams to support the business L&E needs as required.
Responsibilities:
* Provide strategic and tactical legal advice and support on labor and employment law issues to NIQ across Europe, while understanding the Company’s representative bodies' obligations. Provide practical legal and compliance advice across a wide range of cross-border issues, including, for example, restructuring projects, redundancies and outsourcing; benefits harmonization, acquisitions and divestitures, and HR policies standardization.
* Provide advice and counsel on day-to-day employment matters such as performance management, discipline, grievances, terminations, severance, etc.
* Retain and work effectively with outside counsel where required, and manage external counsel to reduce costs, secure value-added services, and improve ‘make vs buy’ decisions.
* Work as part of the L&E team to drive simplification initiatives and consistent enterprise standards for Labour and Employment support across the Europe Region.
* Provide training for the HR and business teams on key employment and compliance risk areas.
* Keep abreast of relevant legal developments across Europe.
Qualifications and Requirements:
* More than 10 years of experience in Labour and Employment law across multiple European jurisdictions.
* Preferably time spent both with a leading international law firm and in-house with a large multinational corporation, that includes:
o Extensive “hands-on” labour & employment legal experience in a large number of European countries, including experience in handling cross-border matters and major projects;
o Substantial experience and success in working with senior management and international environments;
o Hands-on, roll-up-your-sleeves attorney who can work well in a fast-paced environment, while not becoming distracted from strategic, longer-term priorities, projects and initiatives;
o The experience and confidence to push for change and, when appropriate challenge the status quo, in a way that will be heard and respected;
o Able to work collaboratively across multiple functions in a team environment to implement complex programs; strong interpersonal skills; team player with a sense of humor and ability to deal effectively with individuals at all levels;
o Must be a self-starter and finisher with the ability to efficiently complete projects with minimal oversight;
o A sophisticated understanding of business and commerce to ensure that a compliant environment is aligned with corporate business objectives;
o Ability to distill complex legal concepts and issues in a manner to make them understandable to non-legal specialists;
o Solutions-oriented approach to problem solving;
o Excellent risk identification and mitigation skills;
o Fluent in English.
