As Wind Farm Technician Associate you support the overall operations and maintenance of one or more wind farms and all related facilities to assure safety and maximize availability in accordance with Operations mission.
This role is responsible for safe execution of scheduled maintenance, troubleshooting and repair activities, training, and safety exercises.
This job also maintains accountability and readiness of plant tools, equipment, and vehicles; provides technical guidance to the O&M team; tracks, and maintains records of service activities both scheduled and unscheduled through the digital maintenance management system; and helps maintain the work ethic and culture of the plant O&M team.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Assure that all operation and maintenance activities are performed in a safe manner consistent with policies and procedures established for the wind farm siteAssist in conducting acceptance and performance tests on systems and equipment following planned maintenance or outagesPerform safety and other wind farm related tasks when assigned and fill in as back up to personnel at other RWE sites when necessaryAssist with turbine maintenance including services, major component work and replacement, and troubleshootingAssist with Balance of Plant procedures as needed, including substation and collection system maintenanceAdherence to the company's values and behaviorsOther duties and responsibilities as assigned by the managerQUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma or equivalent required; Associate degree in Sciences or related field from an accredited school preferredA minimum of 2 years of work experience in operations and/or maintenance in power generation, transmission, and/or distribution required, with at least 1 year of experience in wind turbine experience preferredA degree from an accredited institution (excluding correspondence or online programs) can substitute for 2 years of experience if it meets the following criteria: 2-year or 4-year degree, a field of study in technical sciences, such as Engineering, Physics, Power Systems, or closely related disciplinesThe following credentials can substitute for 1 year of experience: Current Journeyman License, Current Master Electrician License, Wind Technician CertificationMilitary experience in a technical field (electrical, electronics, or mechanical) preferredA valid unrestricted driver's license in good standing is requiredWilling to relocate to within 1 hour drive of the site is requiredMust be able to maintain a personal weight limitation of 270 lbs.Must be able to climb wind towers daily.
During this task, employees must be able to open/close hatch doors and identify potential safety hazardsMust be able to balance to(1) work in closed and small swaying areas on top of and within wind towers(2) walk across small surface areas to access areas within wind turbinesAbility to push/pull/lift tools and equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.Ability to work safely in extreme environments (hot sun, cold, etc.
)Ability to walk, climb, and stand extensively during the workdayAbility to follow standard work instructionsAbility to perform basic rigging & signalingKnowledge of and experience with the use of hand and power toolsKnowledge of environmental and safety policies and proceduresAbility to work within tight deadlinesAbility to work independently and as part of a teamAbility and willingness to travel to and from job sites as assignedAbility to create & save documents and spreadsheets in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) and utilize Teams for meetingsAbility to multi-task while working independently and as part of a teamMotivated self-starter, goal-oriented, and strong problem-solving abilitiesAbility to perform basic troubleshooting and repairs of electromechanical systemsAbility to read, interpret, and follow electrical, mechanical, & hydraulic circuit drawingsIdentify energy isolation points and implement LOTO for protectionIntermediate understanding of electromechanical relay, hydraulic accumulator, linear transducer, and electrical motorKnowledge of power electronics, motor drives, AC/DC convertersKnowledge of computer network communication protocol and theory of operation is desiredGood communication skills and must value being part of a teamSafety- Promote safety for all at all timesKnowledge of JHA/LOTO/Tailboard formsInitiative - Able to work with minimum supervision and make decisions for all issues related to his/her discipline(s) with limited and/or available informationThe wind farm site location includes work in and around energized wind turbine generators and balance of plant equipment (substation, pad mount transformers, etc.).
The work will occur within an office, warehouse, turbines, and outdoors.
