Job Summary: To assist in the production of sterilized medical devices for use in all clinical and other areas designated by the UPMC Sports Surgery Clinic. Personally and professionally accountable to the customer and accountable for own actions at all times. Responsibilities: 1. Collecting used items: where alternative arrangements are in place these will continue to apply, as appropriate. 2. Cleaning of trolleys and storage shelves, the steam autoclave and all other equipment within the department. 3. Decontaminate, inspect, assemble, package, sterilize and distribute surgical instruments and applicable patient care equipment according to departmental and international standards. 4. Packing - making up of requisite packs for theatres, wards and other departments. 5. Sterilizing and issuing goods. 6. Stocking shelves of sterile supplies, non sterile disposable items and assisting with stock control and requisitioning. 7. Maintenance of records, where appropriate, in line with departmental policy. 8. Recording of relevant data in the computer or appropriate log books with full clear signature. 9. Decontamination of used devices using mechanical and manual methods. 10. Inspection and function testing of devices. Any discrepancies or faults to be reported immediately to the Manager/ Supervisor. 11. Loading and unloading of disinfection/sterilizing equipment. 12. Handling and storage of raw material components. 13. Taking, recording and delivering phone messages as and dealing with urgent items that may be required from time to time. 14. Operation of mechanical processing equipment including washer disinfectors, ultrasonic cleaners and sterilizers. 15. Organize workload to ensure services are maintained and correct standards are adhered to at all times. 16. Assist in the training of new staff ensure and maintain a clean and dust-free environment at all times. 17. Ensure to keep up to date with new practices regarding the Department. 18. Ensure correct policies & procedures are maintained at all rotation is done every day. 19. Ensure daily checks on autoclaves and washer disinfectors are done before the machines are used as per HSE Code of practice Decontamination and EN Standards. 20. Staff will rotate through each area of the department as defined by local Management. Communication: 1. Report relevant information verbally and in writing to appropriate personnel. 2. Respond appropriately to theatre/colleagues requests and questions. 3. Communicate appropriately with colleagues and other members of the healthcare team. 4. Recognize self-limitations and ask for assistance. 5. Attend and contribute in staff meetings and team briefing. Health and Safety: 1. To ensure the agreed safety procedures are carried out. 2. To maintain a safe environment. 3. To be aware of fire regulations and safety policies in relation to the use of equipment, chemicals, sharp instruments and other potential hazards. 4. To attend training in lifting/manual handling lectures and demonstrations and to facilitate all staff to attend these sessions regularly as decided by clinic policy. 5.
