It has evolved from a single function agency managing the National Debt to a manager of a complex portfolio of public assets and liabilities.
Businesses managed by the NTMA include borrowing for the Exchequer and the management of the National Debt, the State Claims Agency, the New Economy and Recovery Authority ("NewERA"), the Ireland Strategic Investment Fund, National Development Finance Agency and the NTMA Future Ireland Funds business unit with responsibility for the management of the Future Ireland Fund and Infrastructure, Climate and Nature Fund.
The NTMA also assigns staff to the National Asset Management Agency, the Strategic Banking Corporation of Ireland (SBCI) and Home Building Finance Ireland (HBFI).
In support of the Government's Climate Action Plan, the NTMA acts as a conduit for private sector investment in climate action initiatives through our funding, investment, financial advisory and state infrastructure procurement activities.
The NTMA Climate Action Strategy was formulated to integrate climate action into the NTMA business decisions in the context of delivering its mandates to Government.
The Sustainability and Climate Action Team's function is to enable the NTMA to continue to build its leadership role in sustainable finance, to ensure the integration of climate action into the NTMA's business decision making and oversee the implementation of the NTMA's Climate Action Strategy.
The sustainability and Climate Action team works closely with colleagues across all business areas, across all business mandates, and corporate services particularly both Facilities and Finance.
The NTMA Sustainability Group monitors delivery of the NTMA's Climate Action Strategy while also facilitating cross unit collaboration and information sharing with respect to climate-related activities.
The group is chaired by the CFOO with regular reporting to the NTMA Board and EMT.

The role offers an ideal and unique development opportunity for a high-calibre candidate with two years of relevant experience to gain exposure to sustainable finance initiatives across the NTMA and to support in the delivery of Government climate action initiatives through our mandates along with NTMA commitment to be a Net Zero emissions organisation by 2030.
The role will require assisting the integration of climate action into the NTMA's business decision-making, and regular reporting of climate action strategy deliverables to internal and external stakeholders.
The Sustainability Analyst's role is to work positively and collaboratively among a wide team of professionals on sustainability matters across the NTMA and to assist in the co-ordination of the work of the Sustainability and Climate Action unit, the NTMA Sustainability group and NTMA green team.
Principal Accountabilities The candidate will be required to work across the full range of the NTMA's sustainable finance activities.
Activities will be varied and could include: Data Analysis: Admin, data collation and analysis, project management in support of the ongoing implementation of the NTMA's Climate Action Strategy.
Analysis and research as required to understand policy drivers and macro themes to develop in-depth knowledge of the sustainability landscape and how they relate to the NTMA's business mandates Sustainability Reporting: Reporting of data analysis and metrics to both ensure compliance with relevant standards to which NTMA is subject, such as the Public Sector Climate Action Mandate and to communicate progress on sustainability goals to stakeholders both internally and externally.
Strategy Development: Contributing to Climate Action strategy development and its ongoing implementation across the NTMA Stakeholder Engagement: Responsible for contributing to the NTMA Sustainability Group to assist with effective cross unit collaboration and information-sharing .
Work collaboratively with internal stakeholders across the NTMA on sustainability issues Knowledge and Experience The ideal candidate will: Have a third level qualification in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Legal, Engineering, Science or a related discipline with an emphasis on sustainability Demonstrate a keen and well-informed interest in Sustainability, climate change and how it relates to government policy and sustainable finance and in developing knowledge and expertise.
Strong data analytics and/or Climate-related financial risk modelling skills would be an advantage Experience The ideal candidate will have: 2 years' relevant experience in sustainability and/or climate action Any of the following backgrounds would be highly considered: sustainable and green finance, circular economy, sustainability strategy, implementation, project management and reporting.
Strong candidates that do not possess the required experience will also be considered.
