Advanced Specialist Pharmacist (Oncology/Haematology) in Waterford
As an Advanced Specialist Pharmacist in the Oncology/Haematology department at our hospital, you will have a pivotal role in ensuring the highest priority is given to patient care and safety.
Duties and Responsibilities
* Model and promote our hospital's core values: Quality and Safety, Dignity and Respect, Caring and Listening, Responsibility and Integrity, Excellence and Innovation.
* Strategically lead and manage pharmaceutical care and clinical pharmacy services for Haematology/Oncology day ward and inpatient wards.
* Achieve competence in the use and administration of the Oncology/Haematology clinical information system (ARIA), acting as Pharmacy lead for operational and training issues.
* Stay up-to-date with best practices and relevant competency frameworks for delivering Oncology/Haematology pharmacy services.
* Review Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy (SACT) protocols within the hospital.
* Manage safe and cost-effective entry of new anti-cancer medications onto the hospital formulary, supporting colleagues in Pharmacy and other disciplines with expert advice and education.
* Take a lead role in managing SACT medicine stock shortages within the hospital.
* Assist in management of expanded access or compassionate use programmes, acting as first point of contact for Consultant Oncologists and Haematologists.
* Collaborate with Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) to optimise SACT workflows.
* Contribute to development of clinical guidelines as part of MDT.
* Identify and address deficiencies in medication management systems and processes.
* Highlight any discrepancies, incidents, or deficits in services to Chief Pharmacist, Director of Oncology Services, and General Manager.
* Provide expert support to Finance and Hospital leadership to help manage drugs budget through regular reporting, analysis, and horizon scanning.
* Identify drug budget savings in collaboration with MDT to ensure optimal use of SACT and associated therapy.
* Participate in multidisciplinary meetings, hospital committees and working groups as required.
* Act as leader and role model, building effective partnerships within the hospital and wider health system.
* Propose, lead, and manage innovation and technological improvements in Oncology/Haematology Pharmacy service.
Qualifications and Experience
* Registered with Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland or entitled to be so registered.
* At least 4 years of satisfactory post-registration hospital experience.
* Possess requisite specialised knowledge and ability for proper discharge of duties.
* Significant, proven post-registration hospital practice experience with broad clinical pharmacy experience and line management experience.
* Experience in working within Aseptic Compounding Unit and/or haematology/oncology unit(s).
* Previous experience working within Cancer specialities at senior level.
* Evidence of ongoing Continuing Professional Development and role-specific learning.
* Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of all relevant aspects of National Cancer Control Programme (NCCP).

Desirable Criteria
* Formal management and leadership training or equivalent experience in management, training and supervision of Pharmacy staff.
* Experience in Good Clinical Practice.
* Further qualification such as post-graduate diploma or MSc in Clinical Pharmacy.
