Reports to: Credit Control Supervisor
Role Summary
The Credit Control Officer will work as part of the Credit Control Team providing relevant support for the provision of members services. The Credit Control Officer will also contribute to the smooth operation of the credit union by undertaking related administrative and organisational tasks.
Key Responsibilities
* Ensure that members repay their loans and mortgages in accordance with their individual loan agreements and monitor members’ current account overdrafts and budget accounts.
* Communicate with members whose loans are in arrears with a view to providing support and to gain an understanding of their individual circumstances.
* Assist in recovering funds from previously written off loans and liaise with the credit union’s debt recovery solicitors and various firms of debt collectors.
* Develop and maintain familiarity with the mortgage arrears process and with the credit union’s credit control, provisioning and other related policies.
* Assist the Credit Control Supervisor with quarterly loan book reviews and any other duties advised by the Credit Control Supervisor.
* Assist the Credit Control Supervisor with the management of personal insolvency cases.
* Assist with the processing of member insurance claims.
* Take reasonable steps to ensure that where possible any problems are solved on the day on which the problem arises.
* Prioritise tasks according to urgency.
* Manage communication in an accurate and efficient manner as required.
Key Performance Indicators
* Teamwork and contribution to the smooth and efficient running of the Credit Control Team and the credit union overall.
* Success in providing an efficient service and support to members while minimising the number of loan accounts in arrears.
* Success in assisting to resolve any service bottlenecks or backlogs.
* Ability to assist the Credit Control Supervisor with reporting.
* Quality of support, advice and training delivered to colleagues and volunteers.
The Person
* A minimum of 3 years’ experience working in a credit control function in a financial service or a credit union environment.
* A good standard of education.
* Hold QFA/APA qualifications or a willingness to work towards same to achieve minimum competency requirements, as set by the Central Bank of Ireland for the credit union sector.
* Excellent administrative, organisational, and communication skills.
* Ability to work effectively under pressure, prioritise workload and to meet deadlines.
* Ability to work as part of a team.
