Working hours:
Full time, 37.5 hours per week.
8 hour shifts with 30-minute lunch break.
Monday – Friday with 1-2 Saturdays per month.
Saturdays are rotated and time in lieu is given for Saturdays worked.
Annual leave: 22 days Annual Leave. 1 day of leave for birthday.
Service days accrued for future leave years up to a maximum of 27 days (applicable after completing 1 full calendar year of service)
Contract: Permanent (once probation of 6 months is completed)
Salary: Negotiable, depending on experience and qualifications.
A top eye clinic in Dublin South carries out a range of services including refractive and intraocular procedures which include LASIK, LASEK, PRK, Implantable Collamer Lens (ICL), Crosslinking (CXL), Cataract and Custom Lens Replacement (CLR) procedures as well as General Ophthalmology. This clinic has state of the art technology for clinical support for general ophthalmology including glaucoma and medical retina and is very well supported by a large administrative, nursing and ophthalmic technician team.
The Role:
As a busy refractive practice, the surgeons require the support of a multidisciplinary team to clinically assess refractive and general ophthalmology patients. Appointment types include preoperative evaluations, post operative appointments, general ophthalmology appointments and surgical appointments.
As an Ophthalmic Nurse, duties would be divided into three subcategories:
1. Working as part of the Nursing/ Technician team to perform ophthalmic diagnostic testing on patients as part of clinical work ups for consultations at the Clinic.
2. Working as part of the Nursing/ Technician team to complete virtual consultations with patients to capture motivations for surgery, medical history, visual needs etc prior to their consultation with the Surgeon.
3. Theatre duties and responsibilities:
Scrubbing for cataract, lens and laser eye surgery procedures performed in the dedicated theatre at the clinic.
Management of patients on the day of surgery (consent discussion, medication management, counselling on postoperative instructions, completion of slit lamp examinations as part of discharging patients).
Assist the Surgeon in theatre (in the Wellington and off site at Beacon Hospital) for cataract and lens procedures. Assist with the documentation of procedures, checking correct IOLs available etc.
Assist with planning cataract and lens procedures by calculating IOLs to be used by the Surgeon during the procedure.

Active NMBI registration (RGN)
Excellent communication skills
Excellent attention to detail
Strong service ethic
Ophthalmic experience is an advantage but not essential.
