The Organisation:
The Hunt Museumwww.huntmuseum.com exhibits one of Ireland’s greatest private collections of Art and Antiquities, dating from the Neolithic Period to the 20th century. Generously donated by John and Gertrude Hunt to the people of Ireland, this diverse collection is now housed in Limerick’s 18th Century Palladian style building, formerly The Custom House. It operates on yearly business plans, moving towards the fulfilment of Strategy 2023.
The museum stages regular exhibitions to bring in new and repeat audiences. Recent successes include: Night's Candles are Burnt Out and Creepy Crawlies: Love/ Hate. For 2025, two artist exhibitions and a major new exhibition are scheduled. The Museum has expanded its online presence with concurrent online exhibitions, work with wikipedia and an enlarged social media following.
Looking forward we have several innovative projects from the expansion of Museum in a Garden, where objects escape our walls, reinvented as supersize versions of themselves, a programme to improve our accessibility for the visually impaired and the development of more interactive exhibits. We also have a very successful and ambitious education programme and are looking to expand the museum offering of Limerick.
The Hunt Museum is a registered charity and operates as a not for profit enterprise.
