Job Description:
Rathborne Nursing home is a new purpose-built 5 star Nursing home, located in a countryside setting, in close proximity to Castleknock, Navan Rd, Blanchardstown, and Dublin 15 area of Dublin city, only 3 minutes from the Phoenix Park. It has 120 single bedrooms all with their own en-suite bathroom facilities.
At Rathborne Nursing Home meticulous thought has gone into its design to provide our Residents with high degrees of comfort and privacy. This exceptional modern building has its own inner courtyards and secure landscaped gardens on a 6 acre site, designed to meet the needs of our residents. We also offer a Dementia specific residence.
As an Assistant Director Of Nursing, you will ensure a high standard of care across all units, daily care, and activities in accordance with the best practice and within available resources. Planning, development, and management will be part of your daily duties. You will be part of an excellent team and will also be part of a large management team, with plenty of external support within the Group.
ROLE SUMMARY
The appointed person will assist the Director of Nursing in the overall operations and day to day running of the home.
The appointed person will assist in the efficient management of resources, the assignment of work and monitoring the quality of work performance of staff.
The appointed person will assume the role of person in charge in the absence of the Director of Nursing.
The post is full time - 6 months Fixed Term contract.
QUALIFICATIONS
Must be registered with An Bord Altranais.
Must have minimum of five years post registration experience, of which two years must have been at management level in a residential care setting.
Must have knowledge of all relevant legislation and HIQA Standards for Residential Care Settings.
Must have evidence of continuous professional development.
THE POST HOLDER WILL
Assume 24/7 responsibility in assisting the Director of Nursing in the clinical care of patients and operation of the home.
Be responsible for promoting an organisational culture that incorporates the philosophy and principles associated with person-centred care.
The focus is to assist residents, where possible, to maintain their independence and avoid unnecessary hospitalisation, liaising with clients and their families as required, in order to help promote wellbeing and a healthy lifestyle.
Demonstrate clinical expertise in the care of persons in our care and be cognisant of current best practice.
Assist the Director of Nursing to manage resources efficiently and effectively to ensure the continuous quality improvement of the service.
Be actively involved in the supervision of the daily management of the home, undertaking nursing rounds.
Facilitate team building and motivation.
Assist the Director of Nursing in ensuring that policies, procedures and standards are developed, revised and implemented.
Have an in-depth knowledge of all legislative requirements of meeting HIQA National Standards and assisting with implementation and monitoring within the home.
Key Duties
Clinical Governance
Assume the role of Person in Charge in the absence of the Director of Nursing.
Assist in the development and evaluation of quality initiatives and clinical audits to ensure that the best quality of services and practices are provided within available resources.
Assist the Director of Nursing in monitoring and investigating all complaints, untoward clinical incidents and near misses.
Encourage and facilitate staff innovation in nursing practice.
Provide clinical support and mentorship to qualified nurses, assessing competency levels in line with current best practice and as per An Bord Altranais Professional Guidelines for Nurses working with Older People.
Human Resources
Assist in implementing annual staff development and performance review.
Assist in managing staff rosters, staff sickness and absenteeism in accordance with company policies.
Will be involved in the clinical supervision of Care Assistants.
Assist with recruitment, interviewing and selection of staff.
Education
Ensure that staff receive induction/orientation, and are provided with opportunities to attend in-service training and other appropriate educational programmes and seminars.
Facilitate learning from Nursing practice through reflection and critical incident analysis.
Responsible for assisting the DON on the development and maintenance of a staff training programme including the delivery of training as appropriate.
Self Development
Be cognisant of the latest developments in health care and nursing practice and maintain a professional portfolio.
Attend and participate in conferences, seminars and other research/educational activities regionally.
