Freight Forwarder and Purchasing Specialist (Full Time)

About Cathx Ocean
Cathx Ocean are world leaders in Underwater Optical Imaging systems for machine learning. We have developed the world’s first built for purpose Subsea Imaging system, resolving most of the technical constraints with optical imaging underwater. These systems allow data to be collected in one tenth of the time taken with traditional imaging systems and also provide the data on which the Cathx Machine Learning hardware platform will be built. We are now planning to build and release a full suite of subsea applications and technologies to deliver efficiency and precision to a range of underwater operations.
Our customers operate in a diverse number of markets including Offshore Oil and Gas, Subsea Cables, Renewable energy, Deep water search and Salvage, Oceanographic and Subsea Archaeology. We are changing how they see underwater and how image and measurement data can be converted to reliable and actionable information.
Key Responsibilities
Freight Forwarding
1. Oversee all aspects of import and export logistics, including shipping, customs documentation, and compliance with international regulations.
2. Coordinate the scheduling and execution of global shipments ensuring secure and timely delivery of products.
3. Manage the creation of paperwork for all despatches both inside and outside the EU making sure that we align to all regulatory requirements.
4. Manage custom returns and inward processing requirements.
5. Choosing transportation providers to ship products to their destination.
6. Obtaining paperwork from customers and processing customs declarations.
7. Responding to freight forwarding enquiries in a timely manner and obtaining all relevant documentation.
8. Familiarity with export documentation and international shipping regulations.
9. Extensive knowledge of and user experience with Thyme IT custom and excise software application.
10. Management of customs compliance requirements with our backup logistics & customs clearance partners KRL as and when required.
Purchasing
1. Management of the PO process, generate all Purchase Orders for consumables, services, equipment production and engineering Stock.
2. Day-to-day management of the supplier base, driving a strong and collaborative relationship with all supply chain partners.
3. Coordination of on-time supplier deliveries in accordance with internal schedules.
4. Where requested conduct research into available suppliers to get the best price and availing of any discounts possible.
5. Work collaboratively with the Quality Assurance team to ensure that the new product introduction processes work effectively in terms of material requirements and lead times.
6. Assist in minimising lead times for suppliers through effective monitoring of stock.
7. Liaise with Engineers and the warehouse to ensure that all relevant materials are ordered and delivered to engineering/warehouse stock in a timely manner.
Other
1. Management of the Sales Order acknowledgement, despatch, pro-forma and sale invoice process on EFACS (ERP).
2. Work closely with Finance, Production, and other cross-functional teams as required across all areas of responsibility.
3. Ensure that procurement and logistics processes adhere to the ISO 9001 quality standards.

Skills / Background & Qualifications
1. 3 years’ experience in logistics and supply chain, with at least two years’ experience of organising transport solutions.
2. Extensive knowledge of the freight forwarding industry.
3. Solid knowledge of procurement practices and procedures, and market/economic indicators.
4. Strong negotiating skills and extensive purchasing experience.
5. Experience working with inventory management software (ERP).
6. Excellent IT and numerical skills.
7. Proven experience in relationship building, working directly with stakeholders and/or cross-functional teams.
Desirable Skills
1. Knowledge and experience in Logistics and Customs Procedure.
2. Experience in electronic & mechanical manufacturing environment.
3. Experience in leading process improvements / lean manufacturing activities in a manufacturing environment is advantageous.
4. Product and inventory management certification a plus.

This role will provide the opportunity for hybrid working after the probation period of six months. This is a full-time role and Cathx Ocean operates a 37.5 hour working week, Monday-Friday.
