Role Purpose:
Reporting to the Power Trading & Operations Manager, the Senior Power Market Analyst will play a key role in the evolution of the BGE Power Trading desk over the coming years. There is seismic change underway in the electricity space across technology, regulation, markets, and climate – and this role will have responsibility for ensuring that the existing BGE portfolio evolves to best serve our customer needs over that period. In addition, the successful applicant will play a key role in influencing future commercial and Asset Development strategies as the new landscape unfolds.
About the Role
1. Maintain excellent knowledge of all I-SEM markets – Capacity, Energy & System Services
2. Own the Front Office input to all market and industry consultations with dual objectives of maximising performance of BGE portfolio and helping the Irish power system deliver it’s Net Zero ambitions
3. Own the Front Office response to all BGE Asset Development proposals and business cases
4. Provide actionable recommendations for new portfolio hedging strategies that maximise the performance of existing BGE portfolio
5. Lead on design and operational implementation of new tools, markets & valuations that will maximise performance
6. Play a key role in the design of spot market strategies for BGE assets – with particular focus on the evolution of the BGE customer load book as smart, Microgen, demand side response etc become more prevalent
About You
7. In-depth knowledge of key I-SEM markets – Capacity, Energy and DS3/SSFA
8. Expert understanding of all risks associated with a power portfolio – price risk, volume risk, basis risk, scheduling/availability risk
9. Able to grasp the key commercial drivers in relation to existing assets and new transactions, including what the key drivers are for value enhancement.
10. Excellent analytical skills, curious and detail oriented particularly with regards to numerical analysis, legal documentation, and written reports.
11. Have an enthusiastic and tenacious approach with a strong commitment to learning
12. Develop and maintain, customer, partner and market stakeholder relationships.
13. Work closely with a number of disciplines to deliver optimal solutions across external and internal resources including, Finance, Trading, Legal, EMD, Technical
14. Able to manage involvement in a number of simultaneous initiatives, deliver work to agreed deadlines, and work well with a variety of individuals
15. Able to grasp the key commercial drivers in relation to existing assets and new transactions, including what the key drivers are for value enhancement.
16. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with an ability to disseminate complex information in a simple and transparent manner
