AtkinsRéalis is one of the world’s leading providers of engineering professional consulting and support services with offices across Ireland. We are looking for an Electrical Engineer/Onshore Substation Engineer with relevant experience, required immediately for our Dublin, Cork, Galway, and Dundalk offices.
Typical OSW Activities
The successful applicant will be expected to provide technical expertise into proposals and projects and to represent the company in client meetings as appropriate. Typical OSW activities include:

4. Technical Bid Review
5. Design Assurance
6. Design Review
7. Site and FAT Visits
8. OEM Support Services
9. Due Diligence
10. Technical Expert Services
11. Some original design may also be involved
You will liaise with other teams, internal and external to AtkinsRéalis’ T&D practice, including, but not limited to, the HVDC, Civils, Cable, and P&C teams. You shall work closely with these teams to offer our clients a full end-to-end service.
Qualifications
1. Professionally qualified in electrical engineering, power engineering, or equivalent subject, degree and/or masters (or equivalent) level.
2. Chartered (CEng) or working towards gaining Chartership with a relevant institution.
3. Technical and Industry Expertise:
1. Demonstrate significant knowledge of OSW technology and projects along with a grounding in general power systems engineering.
2. Coordinate across project disciplines, external sub-contractors, and remote offices to identify and mitigate technical risks, and ensure all statutory and regulatory requirements are met.
3. Significant relevant experience in OSW in an engineering consultancy, typically at Site Engineer or Engineering Supervisor level.
4. Understanding of Systems Engineering principles and requirements management.
5. Understanding of functional characteristics of power systems and interactions between OSW installations and the Ireland electricity grid.
6. Ability to understand and communicate customer requirements, lead technical discussions with customers, and develop client relationships.
7. Able to work to deadlines under pressure whilst maintaining safety, quality, and engineering integrity.
8. Strong written and verbal communication skills; experienced in creating and presenting technical reports; and responding to clients’ technical questions.
Responsibilities
Working with experienced staff, the candidate will complete physical engineering designs and the generation of professional plans and specifications, technical calculations, exhibits, and reports.
1. Knowledge and understanding of Substation Physical Engineering design for utility and renewable substations.
2. Design to current codes and standards (Eirgrid, ESB, NG, IEC, IEEE).
3. Perform and execute technical calculations with supervision.
4. Collaborate with other disciplines and the project engineering team for structural and civil design requirements.
5. Respect and enforce policies and procedures in the preparation of drawings.
6. Realize the different stages of the project within the timeframes and budgets. Provide guidance for project schedules and allotted hours for project tasks.
