Fixed term contract opportunity for a Senior IT Project Manager based in either Cork or Dublin to work with a well-established Irish organisation.
The role:
The IT team within my client's organisation is an integral part of the business providing operational and customer-focused IT services. These services include solution delivery, service management, and infrastructure & operations management. These services are provided through a combination of in-house resources and external service providers.
The Project Delivery team within the IT team is responsible for delivering and maintaining a project delivery capability to enable the delivery of mainly IT-specific change projects to meet the needs of the business. Reporting to the Project Delivery Manager, the Senior Project Manager has responsibility for the end-to-end delivery of projects within the portfolio. This role requires strong project management and team/people management skills.
Duties and Responsibilities:
* Deliver an agreed portfolio of projects, from initiation through to project closeout, that deliver outcomes that meet the business objectives.
* Lead and mentor one or more skilled Project Managers as required, promoting cross-functional working, and assist in the development of skills, competencies, and capabilities within the team.
* Oversee the delivery of mainly IT-centric projects being delivered through Project Managers/external third parties and ensure that the portfolio of projects is managed effectively & efficiently through the entire project life cycle.
* Ensure adherence is maintained with the relevant governance processes, and ensure projects meet all the phases and gates go/no-go criteria.
* Act as a senior member of the Project Delivery Team and QA the projects being led by the Project Managers/external parties to ensure sufficient quality and progress is being made.
* Ensure the procurement process is followed as appropriate in the project lifecycle.
* Manage project plans and allocate resources to achieve planned work schedules.
* Manage & report on status, risks, issues, and project plans of all projects within the portfolio on a regular basis. Escalate to Project Sponsor and Steering Group at appropriate points.
* Ensure that analysis and overall system design, including production of specifications, is completed.
* Manage stakeholders across the project lifecycle including users and external resources/service providers.
* Manage to budgets and timescales to ensure adherence to approved milestones and overall budget.
* Ensure the project team develops detailed test plans and test data for system, business, and post-production testing.
* Manage relationships with all suppliers and contractors, monitoring their progress and adherence to the contract, representing the Project Delivery team at meetings with third parties.
* Manage day-to-day issues within the project portfolio and act as an escalation point, taking ownership through to resolution.
* Define, monitor, and report on monthly KPIs and promote strong governance.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
* Relevant 3rd level qualification in Business, IT, or related discipline.
* Minimum of 7 years Project Delivery Experience, with at least 5 years as Project Lead.
* Proven ability to create and develop good working relationships to facilitate the accomplishment of work goals, coupled with the ability to gain commitment from others.
